Summary of Essential Job Functions:
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining a clean and orderly work area at all times
  • Ability to listen, speak and write clearly, and interact professionally with others.

  • Obtain patient information, including a Physician Certified Statement (PCS),Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), while maintaining Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance at all times.
  • Participate in Montana Medical Transport staff meetings and annual emergency procedures drills.
  • Contribute to building a positive team environment with respect for the views of others. Provide excellent customer service skills in all work interactions.
  • Monitoring of aircraft while in flight and use of Air Medical Resource Management (AMRM), relating to communications
  • Implementation of the Emergency Response Plan in the event of a loss of aircraft
  • Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations
  • Must possess knowledge of EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, RT scopes of practice and responsibilities
  • Will follow and adhere to all requirements, regulations and procedures of any licensing board or agency, including all Montana Medical Transport's policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess basic computer skills and be able to type over 70 words per minute (WPM)
  • Post-high school education or medical knowledge (EMT/CNA equivalency or higher) preferred
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) or the National Association of Air Medical Communication Specialist (NAACS) within 18 months of hire.
  • Must be able to pass Airport/TSA 10-year background check
Education:
  • High School Diploma
  • Will complete training in regards to: Air Medical Resource Management (AMRM) relating to communications, Implementation of the Emergency Response Plan, Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, Knowledge of EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, RT scope of practices and responsibilities, local DOT regulations, Navigation, Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation, Techniques and terminology, Weather interpretation.
Experience:
  • Previous medical experience or knowledge (EMT/CNA equivalency or higher) preferred
  • Previous medical terminology knowledge preferred
Licenses & Certificates:
  • Certified Flight Communicator (CFC) certified within 6 months of hire
Competencies:
  • Must maintain continuing education (CEU’s) and recertify FCS certification as needed (EMD recertification is every 2 years. For NAACS, recertification occurs every 4 years.
Skills:
  • Must be able to type greater than sixty words per minute

  • While performing duties of the job, employees will lift up to 25 lbs
  • Job duties are often performed at high stress levels, requiring employees to function effectively and independently while maintaining good working relationships with MMT crew, other EMS personnel, and hospital staff.
  • Employee will perform repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as monitor dispatch email for incoming/outgoing documents, monitor transport team during active call via company tracking software, monitor dispatch communication devices.
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Work Environment:
  • The communications area must be free of foot traffic and ambient noise.
  • The communications center must have the ability to notify the medical transport team and the on-line medical control or the medical director
  • All calls and radio communications must be recorded and retained for 30 days.
