The Americas Controller is responsible for providing hands-on leadership and expertise in the management of the financial accounting and reporting for 3 insurance entities within SiriusPoint Americas and a holding company, which includes GAAP and Statutory accounting processes and controls; coordination and delivery of the financial close process; timely and accurate financial reporting; maintenance of internal controls; interfacing with internal and external auditors; and capital and risk-based capital models.
This successful candidate will be a sophisticated and hands-on leader, who is committed to excellence and who will support and contribute to an environment of continuous improvement. This role reports to the Group Controller.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for the GAAP and Statutory accounting processes and controls over all re/insurance activity within the Americas, including the delivery of the monthly/quarterly close process.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate management of the statutory financial reporting process, including the preparation of the annual statement, quarterly statements, risk-based capital calculation and various other statutory/regulatory filings for the NY Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).
- Maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting, including the monitoring, documentation and communication of administrative, accounting methods and procedures.
- Research complex accounting issues and document complex re/insurance contracts.
- Perform internal control procedures and exercise initiative to identify and explain variances and unusual items.
- Ensure business transactions are properly authorized and executed and in compliance with accounting policies and procedures, GAAP, Statutory Accounting Principles, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
- Interact with external auditors related to financial statements and financial examinations.
- Serve as the key point of contact for the Toronto branch financial functions, capital requirements and regulatory reporting.
- Provide timely and accurate financial reporting services to senior management, including information required for QBRs.
- Participate in the annual budget planning, tax planning and provide projections support.
- Coordinate and oversee subsidiary eliminations and intercompany transactions.
- Constantly review and recommend changes and improvements to financial and accounting policies, processes, procedures, and technology to meet internal and external reporting requirements, improve operation efficiency, and safeguard corporate assets.

Your skills and abilities should include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
- 7 - 10 years of prior experience in financial services including experience in the property and casualty insurance industry.
- Prior experience in U.S. GAAP and Public Company/SEC reporting experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of reinsurance accounting/risk transfer accounting requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to varying audiences.
- High level of personal integrity and experience managing sensitive/confidential data in a professional manner
- Strong leadership skills; ability to establish and maintain credibility and to influence and build trust
- Strong business and collaboration skills, and responsive to service needs and operational demands.
- Demonstrated track record of excellent decision-making abilities; ability to make decisions logically, methodically, and timely.
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple assignments.

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000 per year to $225,000 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, SiriusPoint will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
