Location: London

Working Arrangements: Hybrid, 35 hours per week

Join Our Team    

  

You will be Senior Underwriter, Casualty. You will report to the Head of Casualty, London.  

The main purpose of your role is negotiating, underwriting, and maintaining a profitable portfolio of business to meet budgetary requirements, as well as researching new business opportunities to develop a quality book of business.  

  

Your responsibilities will include:  

  

Business Development  

  

  • Gathering market data for new markets and products and promoting SiriusPoint London Branch and Syndicate 1945 to identify new production opportunities.
  • Tracking competitor activity
  • Managing underwriting results by monitoring production, renewal retention and other production and quality measures
  • Providing input into the business planning process and assisting in developing the budget for the business unit
  • Attending client presentations and market seminars, travelling as required
  • Providing reports to the Underwriting Committee detailing portfolio performance, progress against budget, visit reports, etc.
  • Complying with Group and Audit Requirements

  

Casualty Underwriting (London Market) 

  

  • Analysing insurance proposals, gathering and assessing background information to identify the risk involved.
  • Liaising with Exposure Management to evaluate the potential loss in any catastrophic event.
  • Calculating premium in line with SiriusPoint pricing models
  • Negotiating terms with policyholders or their brokers, specifying any conditions to be imposed
  • Providing and recording quotes
  • Underwriting policies, adhering to compliance requirements and the Underwriting Guidelines to ensure line size within authority and the annual business plan. Cede risks, as appropriate, to the respective reinsurance programme. 
  • Maintaining detailed records of decisions made and policies underwritten in line with SiriusPoint processes and     procedures
  • Developing and maintaining constructive and co-operative working relationships with brokers
  • Providing guidance, advice and support to the business unit team
  • Ensuring the smooth running of the team e.g., Lloyd's box manned daily
  • Providing training and mentoring to less experienced team underwriters on market conditions, competitors, relationship management, etc.

  

General  

  

  • Undertaking professional training and maintaining commercial awareness of market trends
  • Adhering to all SiriusPoint Policies, Processes and Procedures
  • Adhering to all PRA/FCA, SARBOX and Lloyd's regulatory requirements
  • Undertaking additional related activities, as requested by the Line Manager
  • Attending Underwriting Reviews and Underwriting Conferences
  • Travelling where required, subject to prior agreement
  • Performing all duties in line with the FCA Individual Conduct Rules as documented in the Employee Handbook
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

  

Key Accountabilities 

  

  • Working collaboratively with key stakeholders both within London and across the Group to help develop, promote, and execute underwriting strategies to achieve the Casualty business plan.
  • Underwrite business in accordance with the business plan as well as personal authority to meet business objectives whilst acting with integrity and following the ‘One Sirius’ ethos.
  • Ensure that SiriusPoint’s Casualty underwriting guidelines, aggregations and risk tolerances are adhered to.
  • Monitor and manage key MI such as premium, losses and exposures to provide accurate information for key stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Work with other senior staff to provide training for junior team members.
  • Working with Brokers and Insureds to reinforce SiriusPoint Casualty underwriting appetite.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements and ensure up to date with all changes. 

  

Organisational Accountabilities 

  

  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Casualty, London, Active Underwriter, and London CEO to ensure that their views are incorporated into Casualty underwriting strategies and that strategies are aligned with executive management expectation.
  • Pro-active stakeholder engagement including local face-to-face local meetings.
  • Close involvement with the actuarial team to continuously improve pricing and exposure management.
  • Work closely with various teams across the group, providing product expertise to meet all regulatory deadlines.

  

Technical Skills & Experience 

  

Your skills and abilities should include:  

  

  • Casualty Treaty (London market) or (US or International) Binder experience
  • Proven underwriting skills in this market, or a clear understanding and pathway from a connected discipline or market
  • Effective negotiation skills and ability to influence others
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Lloyd’s market and or company market
  • Educated to ACII (or equivalent) level
