The P&C Programs Underwriter is a critical member of our team evaluating new program opportunities.  You will work on large and complex insurance transactions across several lines (General Liability, Excess, Professional Liability, Auto, Workers Comp, among other niches).  You will build a network of contacts across the (re)insurance industry, interfacing with reinsurance brokers, (re)insurance carrier executives, and leaders at both new and established program administrators.

The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial and possess technical acumen, leadership and relationship skills to underwrite and profitably grow the book of business and contribute to a continuous improvement environment. 

This position reports to the Head of Underwriting, P&C Insurance North America.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, underwriting, and overseeing profitable programs for US P&C Insurance.
  • Building and marketing the capabilities of SiriusPoint in partnering with brokers and other intermediaries.
  • Evaluating the exposures and risk management practices; determining appropriate policy terms and conditions; and, developing policy pricing, crafting unique structures and working in tandem with our pricing actuaries.
  • Supporting the strategic direction of the portfolio, including underwriting appetite, distribution relationships and guidelines.
  • Working cross-functionally to contribute to the development of business processes, distribution systems and service improvements.

Your skills and abilities should include:

  • 5+ years of underwriting experience in the (re)insurance industry
  • Knowledge in pricing or underwriting books of US Casualty insurance across a variety of products (e.g., Workers Comp, General Liability, Professional Liability, Cyber Security, Auto, Excess Umbrella).
  • Strong quantitative background, able to intimately understand underlying assumptions (e.g., loss pick, triangles, development patterns) and work iteratively with actuaries, brokers and clients.
  • An exceptional communicator, collaborator, and presenter.
  • Strategic thinker who can make recommendations and propose non-traditional solutions to our clients, including unique structures (e.g., caps, loss-sensitive features). Able to think holistically about value-creation from fees, underwriting income, and M&A events for our partners.
  • Sound business acumen and judgment, with an appreciation for balanced risk-taking and underwriting rigor; ability to communicate and constructively engage with clients and intermediaries to align incentives and get to optimal outcomes.

 

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $200K to $225K per year . This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, SiriusPoint will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
