Join Our Team

We have several underwriters in the company that started their careers as actuaries, got exposure to reinsurance as pricing or reserving actuaries, and then successfully made the transition to the underwriting side. We are looking for another actuary with that skillset to join the team and support our growing portfolio.

You will be a Casualty Treaty Underwriter – a critical member of our team managing a book of Casualty Treaty business that needs your entrepreneurial intelligence, technical acumen, leadership and relationship skills to tackle new product opportunities to grow the book of business. We are a nimble, dynamic, start-up culture without the hierarchy of some other companies in the market. You will be empowered with tools and the capacity to drive your success while collaborating with a team of leading reinsurance and insurance executives who are challenging convention at the forefront of innovation in the industry.

You will have an appetite to work on large and complex US Casualty Treaty Pro Rata transactions across several lines (General Liability, Excess, Professional Liability, Auto, Workers Comp, Whole Account, Structured, among other niches). You will also support strategic programs and MGAs in our Insurance business. In this unique role, you will work across both Insurance and Reinsurance dual reporting to Ari Chester, Head of US & Canada Reinsurance, and Patrick Charles, Head of P&C Insurance, Americas.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and underwriting profitable book of business for US Casualty Treaty transactions.
  • Support the origination, diligence and oversight of strategic casualty transactions within our Insurance business.
  • Building and marketing your skills to successfully work with brokers and other intermediaries.
  • Evaluating the exposures and risk management practices; determining appropriate policy terms and conditions; and, developing policy pricing, crafting unique structures and working in tandem with our pricing actuaries.

 

  • Supporting the strategic direction of the portfolio, including underwriting appetite, distribution relationships and guidelines.

 

  • Working cross-functionally to contribute to the development of business processes, distribution systems and service improvements.

Your abilities and skills should include:

  • 10+ years of experience working in reinsurance
  • Knowledge in pricing or underwriting US Casualty Treaty transactions across a variety of products (e.g., Workers Comp, General Liability, Professional Liability, Cyber Security, Auto, Excess Umbrella).
  • Strong quantitative background, able to intimately understand underlying assumptions (e.g., loss pick, triangles, development patterns) and work iteratively with actuaries, brokers and clients.
  • An exceptional communicator, collaborator, and presenter.
  • Strategic thinker who can make recommendations and propose non-traditional solutions to our clients, including unique structures (e.g., caps, loss-sensitive features). Able to think holistically across providing paper, capacity and equity investment in strategic partners.
  • Sound business acumen and judgment, with an appreciation for balanced risk-taking and underwriting rigour; ability to communicative and constructively engage with clients and intermediaries to align incentives and get to optimal outcomes.

The estimated salary range for this position is$160K to $250K per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only.  In determining the actual salary within this range, SiriusPoint will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
