The System Engineer (SE) for Service Provider position is an exciting opportunity to participate in the SD-WAN market which is expected to grow to $9B by 2020. This market opportunity is dramatically changing the Enterprise WAN landscape. This position works with the VP of Service Provider Sales to grow the business in the EMEA region.  

This position will be located in the UK and will report to the VP EMEA.

Description

The System Engineer (SE) for Service Provider position is an exciting opportunity to participate in the SD-WAN market which is expected to grow to $9B by 2020. This market opportunity is dramatically changing the Enterprise WAN landscape. This position works with the VP of EMEA to grow the business.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Sell to and persuade the German Service Providers key stakeholders (Sales, pre-sales, technical, product) of the value of Silver Peak
  • Deliver pre-sales presentations and demonstrations to customers and partners
  • Project manage engagements with service providers
  • Manage and own all sales and technical aspects of the engagement process
  • Manage pipeline and revenue forecast
  • Interact with Silver Peak product management and engineering teams on product questions and new feature requests
  • Architect, install and configure the Silver Peak virtual and hardware appliances into environments for proof-of-concept and production deployments
  • Own the technical relationship through technical training, problem escalation and new feature requests
  • Maintain a strong market awareness and knowledge of competitive technologies to best position Silver Peak
  • Present to an audience of mixed roles and technical abilities within an organization

Required Skills & Expertise

Networking

  • Must be a Layer 2 and 3 expert with deep understanding of Layer 3 networking
  • Must be very comfortable with one of the routing protocols: BGP, OSPF
  • Must be very comfortable with TCP/UDP, HTTP(S), DNS, DHCP
  • Must be an expert troubleshooter
  • Knowledge and experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches
  • Knowledge and experience configuring and troubleshooting Firewalls
  • Familiar with one of the cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
  • Familiar with Service Provider Network Design and Architectures

Servers and Software

  • Working knowledge of the installation and configuration of virtual machines on major hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V)

Software Skills

  • Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Word, Visio/Lucid Charts
  • Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, Linux operating system experience
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python), and Web Programing using REST API a plus

Sales

  • +7 years’ experience of sales or pre-sales from the telco industry
  • Proven experience and skills in SFDC.com and basic revenue forecasting (based on deployment schedule)

  • Must be a highly motivated individual with a can-do attitude who will go the extra mile to work with the customers to win their business.
  • Internal drive and positive attitude
  • Must be a team player willing to help out and share knowledge with peers and other teams
  • Ability work in a flat organization with a startup culture in a fast moving SD-WAN market
  • Ability to present to a large audience or group of people
  • Solid project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple large projects
  • Ability to occasionally work nights or weekends around customer schedules
  • Occasional international travel may be required

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in Engineering, preferably in EE or CS
  • 5 to 10 years of experience as a pre-sales Systems/Sales Engineer preferably in Service Provider area
  • Technical certifications are a huge plus but not required (VCP, CCNP, CCIE, JNCP, JNCIE)
  • Continuing Education in new technologies and other areas to improve current skill set
