We are currently seeking experienced and professional sales engineers to capitalize on our momentum, to drive direct enterprise sales, and to expand our market penetration around our products in this rapidly growing market

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a System Engineering Architecture Lead (SEAL) who is a senior technical resource that provides additional engineering support to sales teams within their geographic region. In this role, you will be focused on working the most strategic Silver Peak accounts and opportunities, as a senior technical resources on the sales team.

You will report to the SE Manager, South.

What you will do (aka the Responsibilities):

  • Engage with sales teams on their most strategic opportunities as a senior technical resource
  • Attend meetings in-person and remotely
  • Provide network architecture, troubleshooting and deployment support, often in advanced environments working with Fortune 1000 customers
  • Assist with the planning, project management, proof-of-concept and documentation process for opportunities you are assigned to work on
  • Provide SE support when the territory SE is unavailable (time conflicts, PTO, backfill and newly created territories)
  • Provide hands-on technical product installation assistance to the SE, customers and partners
  • Consistently relay product feedback and requirements to the product management team
  • Be available for customer bring-ups which may consist of early mornings, nights and occasional weekends
  • Sell to and persuade technical personnel at medium and large enterprises on the value of Silver Peak
  • Deliver pre-sales presentations and demonstrations to customers and partners
  • Architect, install and configure the Silver Peak virtual and hardware appliances into customer environments for proof-of-concept and production deployments
  • Maintain a strong market awareness and knowledge of competitive technologies to best position Silver Peak
  • Provide prompt feedback to and be ready to aid product management and engineering on future direction of the product
  • Participate in discussion with marketing and engineering teams on new product introduction and provide feedback

What you are great at (aka the Requirements): 


  • 10+ years of experience as a pre-sales Systems/Sales Engineer
  • Hands on networking experience in complex, global networks
  • Experience working in network consulting, system engineering, professional services or other customer facing roles
  • Ability to demonstrate a working expert level knowledge of WAN routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, Multicast)
  • Prior experience with protocols such as Policy Based Routing (PBR), WCCP, Filter Based Forwarding (FBF), Policy Based Forwarding (PBF)
  • Working experience with VLANs, IP subnetting, ACLs, spanning tree and other network fundamentals
  • Experience with network architecture, design and troubleshooting
  • Existing knowledge of WAN design and connectivity options
  • Demonstrated, working firewall experience with vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Checkpoint
  • Recent experience using the CLI on major router, firewall and switch vendors
  • Troubleshooting skills that include hands-on experience with the configuration of networking equipment, network setup, routing issues and other complex problems
  • Ability to present to an audience of mixed roles and technical abilities within an organization
  • Solid documentation discipline and skills in tools such as Microsoft Visio and LucidChart
  • Ability to own the room, whiteboard and drive a technical conversation.

Servers and Storage

  • Working knowledge of the installation and configuration of virtual machines on major hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Competent troubleshooting skills on the installation and configuration of hypervisors and operating systems

Software Skills

  • Microsoft Visio
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Power Point, Excel, Word)
  • Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, Linux operating system experience

Personal Skills

  • Team player willing to help peers and other teams within the company
  • Ability to present to a large audience or group of people
  • Internal drive and positive attitude to go above and beyond whenever necessary to compete and win business
  • Ability to occasionally work nights and weekends around customer schedules

What you must have (aka the Required Certification):

  • Active CCIE, JNCIE, CCDP or CCNP (Route, Switch & TShoot)
  • Other technical certifications are a plus (VCP)
