Description

The principle purpose of the Data Scientist is to provide advanced analytical capabilities to support data science initiatives. These include insightful, strategic, and functional analysis that yield tangible results for Shutterfly. Current areas of focus on the team include but are not limited to: supply chain optimization, manufacturing quality analytics, manufacturing simulation, Vision based Deep Learning/AI, predictive modeling; recommendation algorithms; natural language processing and text mining; event recall, precision, ranking, and related problems; optimization and mathematical programming with applications to labor scheduling, inventory and capacity, production network flows, etc.

In addition, the Data Scientist is responsible for participating in or leading analysis and automation projects, enhancing team’s expertise in problem analysis, solution implementation, and ongoing optimization. The Data Scientist must have a strong interest in data science, statistical analysis, customer behavior, while demonstrating comfort in dealing with ambiguity and complexity. Data Scientist must possess high level of intellectual curiosity to proactively identify opportunities for measurable improvements. The role is expected to stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, new methodologies and provide guidance to team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to learn and adapt to business needs
  • Conduct deep statistical analysis, including predictive and prescriptive modeling
  • Develop machine learning models and solutions to support key business initiatives
  • Support ad-hoc analytical requests, seeing them through completion and, when required, automate
  • Support development of roadmap and actionable plans aligned with Shutterfly's operations strategy in order to bring the vision to realization
  • Support creation of automated monitoring and insights generation product
  • Build automated reports and dashboards to track KPIs for modeled processes
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate appropriately
  • Foster agile and collaborative team environment

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with stakeholders across the organization
  • Demonstrable ability to write data/business analysis reports
  • 3-4 years of analytical programming experience using various analytical tools (Python, NodeJS, R, etc.)
  • Expert level knowledge of SQL; experience with NoSQL, time series, relational, and unstructured data
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning techniques with 3+ years functional experience
  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand business problems, develop hypotheses, conduct experiments
  • Experience developing and deploying solutions on AWS
  • Ability to manage time and priorities while executing multiple projects
  • 3+ years functional experience in building and operationalizing predictive analytics at scale
  • 4 - 7 years of applicable experience with a degree in quantitative/business/engineering (Masters a plus)
