Senior Manager, Technical Accounting and Reporting

This position is part of Shutterfly’s corporate organization and reports to the Director of Technical Accounting and External Reporting. This position serves a critical finance role and will interface with brand personnel at various levels of the Company, as well as the internal and external auditors. Primary responsibilities will include accounting research, drafting accounting policies and memos, providing technical support to members of the Finance and Accounting team and any M&A. This position will also assist/oversee in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and special projects as needed.


The individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial reports, including drafting financial statements, preparing consolidated statement of cash flows, equity rollforward, footnotes and MD&A;
  • Maintain reporting calendar to inform parties of necessary deadline adherence for quarterly and annual financial reports;
  • Coordinate the approval of quarterly and annual financial reports with all relevant parties, including the disclosure committee, external auditors, and internal and external legal counsel;
  • Prepare the quarterly and annual U.S. GAAP disclosure checklist;
  • Review and analyze contracts to identify, research and evaluate technical accounting treatment for all significant accounting transactions;
  • Analyze new accounting standards issued by the FASB to determine the impact to the company and implement new accounting standards, as required;
  • Support Investor Relations with deliverables required for earnings calls, script, Q&A and other materials;
  • Responsible for the preparation or review of stock-based compensation accounting and other equity accounting analyses, reconciliations and journal entries for month-end close;
  • Drafting and reviewing accounting memos for significant accounting transactions and provide guidance to operational finance teams to ensure significant transactions are properly accounted for and disclosed in the financial statements;
  • Assist with external audit activities including technical accounting work performed over new and/or complex transactions, new accounting standards, or changes to existing policies (e.g., acquisitions, goodwill impairment, accounting for debt, determination of reporting units and segment reporting, etc.);
  • Support business development and M&A integration teams during financial due diligence over target companies and subsequent integration of acquired businesses;
  • Support management in completing special projects as assigned and be a technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives;
  • Responsible for the coaching, mentoring and management of technical accounting/reporting team; and
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of process improvements as appropriate, to simplify, standardize and streamline processes.

Required Experience

  • BS Degree in Accounting; CPA required
  • 7+ years of accounting experience with a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
  • Working knowledge of SEC reporting and Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Public accounting experience
  • Knowledge of Workiva (W-Desk) a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP software a plus
