Shutterfly Business Solutions is looking for a Systems Engineer. Reporting to the Manager of Systems Engineering, the Systems Engineer supports the in place server ecosystem (production and non-production). As a Systems Engineer you will partner with other team members to support the fast paced commercial business and execute on our strategic vision to lead the industry in business to business digital print solutions. Our customers include both retail and health care verticals which require our data security to be best of class. You will participate in large cross functional projects and lead smaller, more focused projects within the Systems Engineering team.

Key Accountabilities:

• Ensure uptime and performance of customer facing websites and servers
• Work closely with project management teams and meet aggressive project milestones
• Build and maintain large scale Windows/Linux infrastructure, storage and services
• Create, publish and manage formal release notification, instructions, deployment notes and launch plans as needed
• Develop and maintain tools and documentation
• Ensure best practices are followed for security, monitoring, and reporting
• Work with our information security team to create, document and enforce security controls to protect customer data
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
• Lead and be a part of capacity planning and load testing process
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide occasional weekend and late night support

Skills Summary

• Strong familiarity and experience with compliance standards and enforcement (SOC, HIPAA)
• Experience leading cross functional project teams
• Familiarity with administration of virtualization technologies in general, VMWare a plus. (vSphere, ESX/ESXi, vCenter, vRealize Operations/Automation)
• Familiarity with designing and supporting highly available applications and technologies (load balancers, cluster design, disaster recovery)
• Kernel, system, application and/or storage performance tuning experience (we will ask)
• Able to converse in PowerShell/Bash/Perl/Python and shell a plus; other languages welcome
• Ability to build automated and scalable processes using Powershell / Perl / Python
• Open-source software deployment and customization experience preferred; customization against enterprise software a plus
• Must be a self-starter and highly motivated individual
• Can figure just about anything out under pressure
• Can make any cross-functional project succeed with dogged determinism
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP; leverages networking principles (L2/L3, STP) to solve complicated problems

• 4+ years of paid experience working in a medium to large scale 24x7 production Windows/Linux/Unix environment (not corporate IT)
• 2+ years experience implementing and administering VMware based virtual environments.
• 1+ Year Experience supporting and building services in AWS: EC2, S3 etc.

• Strong knowledge of process development and improvement
• Large scale, high volume, storage and SAN experience – FC, SCSI, NFS, FCIP, Veritas VM, VxFS, ZFS
• Token list of applications/protocols (or similar) you should have more than a clue about: Apache, BIND, Nagios, Tomcat, Graphite, Bonnie, iozone, Squid, Postfix, memcached… OK the list goes on, but you get the point
