This position reports directly to the Human Resources Director working in a service environment at our office located in Durham, NC. The primary focus of this role is to offer support to both the exempt and non-exempt populations.

You will be responsible for supporting and assisting as needed on the day to day HR transactional activities , assisting with new hire orientation, coordinating HR activities and events, health & safety programs, and supporting our HR policies, filing, completing HR procedures and processes for the operation and other HR generalist activities under the guidance of the Human Resources Director. You will provide guidance and leadership to the supervisory and management team in developing HR projects and processes that support the achievement of business goals. Successful outcomes will result in initiative in and management of supervisor training, employee relations, communications, performance management, compliance and coaching and conflict resolution. The role is also responsible for partnering with other internal HR colleagues on projects for the company as a whole as well as working closely in cross-functional teams to help drive overall business goals.

This position will be located on site in our manufacturing environment which operates 24/7 over three shifts.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary HR operational partner and consultant to the Operations team and address HR related concerns, needs and resulting HR solutions
  • Administer HR policies and procedures, and ensure that they are being consistently administered to align across the organization
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on HR and organizational issues. Build trust and credibility with all employee groups to create a safe, supportive and open environment.
  • Support employees with routine, day-to-day HR questions, providing credible and responsive customer service. Act as a resource to employees to ensure that employee perspectives are heard and considered, using fair and consistent application of the policies
  • Actively manage employee relations, performance management and employee grievances, including confidential investigations as needed
  • Interface with temporary agency for seasonal associates  and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Handle all day to day administrative activities regarding administrative tasks in HR systems, including the administration of the leave policy.
  • Partner with Operations leadership in the coordination of employee engagement activities.
  • Coordinate benefits program questions or provide information and resources to employees as needed
  • Coordinate and partner with other HR team members for HR activities needing local support such as on-site interviews, holiday programs, training or other events
  • Effectively manage filing to be compliant with internal policies and state and federal requirements
  • Conduct new hire orientation and exit interviews for employees and maintain an ongoing summary of the reasons employees are leaving to identify trends and issues that should be brought to management's attention
  • Play an active role with supervisors in managing employee performance and maintaining a culture of employee and supervisory accountability.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or applicable field
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a Human Resources related position required; PHR certification preferred
  • Experience with employee relations and experience with employment law
  • Experience with supporting a seasonal work force or temporary associates preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible to travel and work in multiple locations as needed
  • Ability to cross over 24/7 shifts as needed
  • Strong computer skills including Windows-based programs such as Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook is required
