As a Buyer Team Lead, you will assist in the following activities: leading a team of buyers, overseeing procurement activities, negotiating with suppliers, identifying cost-saving opportunities, ensuring timely delivery of goods, and developing purchasing strategies, while also mentoring and coaching team members to achieve organizational goals.
This position works closely with sales, customer service, logistics, accounts payable, and our corporate inventory management and leadership teams to drive profitability enhancement and sales growth opportunities; it also includes maintaining inventory levels for strategic accounts.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
- Mentor and motivate a team of buyers, assigning tasks and providing performance feedback
- Monitor and manage buyers' workloads
- Foster collaboration and communication within the buying team and other departments
- Manage the replenishment of assigned products within a collection of preferred suppliers to maximize the performance of inventory following established policies and procedures.
- Manage between 300 or more products or on-hand inventory value of 3 million dollars or more.
- Analyze inventory needs and process purchase orders accordingly for general and customer-dedicated stock.
- Interact with selected suppliers; support the cost negotiation and manage the integrity of data and cost.
- Actively seeks cost savings opportunities. To meet the team's cost savings goal.
- Analyzes inventory performance to meet the working capital KPIs for the company.
- Manage AP SMART sheet report to resolve any discrepancies.
- Act as the product subject matter expert for your assigned products.
- Reviews requests for new items to be added to product offering and ensures supplier selection is appropriate, and profitability metrics are met based on guidelines.
- Negotiate and implement potential cost changes based on current market trends.
- Performs work with a high degree of latitude. Handles the most complex issues, such as; cost negotiations, inventory positioning, optimizing supply chain with suppliers, reviewing inventory transfer activity, and optimizing inbound freight expense.

Requirements
- BA/BS Degree in business related field or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years inventory, purchasing or sourcing experience, corrugated experience is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding KPI goals.
- A strong work ethic and a commitment to exceed financial and professional goals.
- Thorough understanding of supply chain and supplier manufacturing processes.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office solutions including Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint and Smartsheet.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally with interpersonal skills.
- Solid grasp of how a product or product line is managed against competition and strategies around maintaining a competitive advantage.
- Self-directed and ability to manage area of responsibility with limited oversight.
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and under pressure
