Job Overview
Shorelight is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Director, Marketplace Product Sales, to lead our marketplace sales strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of marketplace dynamics, exceptional sales skills, and a passion for driving product success with the higher education industry. He/She/They will be responsible for developing sales strategies, managing product performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance our marketplace offerings.
The Director, Marketplace Product Sales is responsible for leading our Marketplace sales strategy for our growing suite of non-academic products and services. In addition, this role will be responsible for leading and managing a global product sales team. The person in this role has a deep working knowledge of Shorelight’s non-academic products and consumers to help drive our go-to-market strategy, product development, and positioning. He/She/They must have strong international education industry knowledge, an entrepreneurial, roll up your sleeves approach, and a deep understanding of the student experience. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in leading the sales strategy for a new business line. The role reports to the Senior Vice President, Marketplace.
Essential Functions
Sales Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to drive customer acquisition, engagement, and retention for all non-academic products.
- Track and analyze sales metrics, providing insights and recommendations to improve product performance.
- Prepare regular reports on sales performance and marketplace trends for management review. Analyze market trends and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for growth.
- Establish processes and procedures for maintaining maximum levels of competitor awareness, product knowledge, and market intelligence.
- Collaborate with the Marketplace team and Marketing team to ensure alignment between marketing efforts, product features/updates and sales.
Customer Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners in the marketplace.
- Conduct market research to understand customer needs and preferences, adapting strategies accordingly.
- Travel to attend outreach activities, seminars, conferences, meetings, and training events to assist key accounts and student pipeline management
People Management
- Recruit, develop, and retain team members to ensure productivity and engagement.
- Engage in talent management activities such as goal setting, performance evaluations, stay interviews, development planning, and ongoing feedback to develop team members and achieve organization goals.
- Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) to team members.
- Foster a culture that reflects Shorelight’s values.
Security
- Comply with Shorelight Written Information Security Policy, and all other Shorelight Information Security Policies and Procedures.
- Take responsibility for any Shorelight assets assigned to you.
- Promptly report any security events, incidents, or weaknesses to Shorelight Security.
Minimal Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5 + years of experience in a sales manager position within the international student recruitment space.
- Strategic-minded and sales-driven, strong drive for results, pressure-resilient.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to inspire and manage a global sales team.
- Superior verbal, interpersonal, and communications skills, including being able to interact effectively across the globe.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship.
- Willingness to travel up to 50-75%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with international students.
- Experience working in a startup or the launch of a new business line.
- Existing network and relationships within the education industry across the region.
- Knowledge of key international educational markets, programs, and products.
- Experience working in a cross-cultural professional environment.
- Experience working in Salesforce or similar CRM.
