Location: La Jolla, CA
Salary Range: $25 - 30 per hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday

Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists, a leading private practice in La Mesa and La Jolla, is seeking Referral Coordinator. Our practice combines top-notch staff, advanced technology, and personalized care protocols to deliver exceptional patient experiences in endocrinology and diabetes management.
Role Description:
The Referral Coordinator manages the end-to-end referral process for patients requiring care, ensuring timely, accurate, and seamless transitions across the care. The position also provides ad hoc administrative support to the department as needed.
Duties:
- Receive, review, and process inbound and outbound referral requests from providers and clinical staff
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and obtain prior authorizations required for referred services
- Identify appropriate in-network or preferred specialty providers based on patient needs and payer requirements
- Schedule specialist appointments and communicate confirmed details to patients, referring providers, and receiving offices
- Transmit referral documentation (chart notes, labs, imaging) to receiving providers in compliance with HIPAA
- Track referral status and follow up on pending, incomplete, or declined referrals
- Maintain accurate referral records in the EHR and referral tracking systems
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, specialists, and internal staff regarding referral inquiries and status updates
- Escalate urgent or time-sensitive referrals to the appropriate clinical staff for triage (no independent clinical judgment)
- Provide general clerical and administrative support to the department as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Front-desk Patient Service Representative responsibilities
- Fax and medical record management
- Answer incoming calls and return voicemail
Requirements:
- Minimum High school diploma
- Relevant experience working as a referral coordinator
- Epic EHR software
- Knowledge of medical terms and practices
- Intermediate user of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access)
- Professional demeanor
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus for better patient communication
