San Diego Cardiac Center is a single specialty cardiology group of 18 physicians and 3 advanced practice providers serving San Diego County. We are proud to be the only non-university affiliated group in the region to provide a full complement of cardiovascular services from prevention and general cardiology to complex coronary interventions, electrophysiology, structural heart disease, advanced heart failure, and cardiac transplantation. The group currently has 3 locations, including their primary location in Kearny Mesa which has been present for over 45 years, a second office in Chula Vista, servicing the southern part of San Diego County and our newest office in El Cajon serving East County San Diego. The nurse practitioner or physician assistant practices as a collaborative team member with and as an extension of the physician, either under direct or indirect supervision, in the outpatient setting to meet patient and family needs. A patient’s plan of care is established collaboratively with the physician. Areas of focus are heart failure management as well as providing support to our electrophysiologist and general cardiologists.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • NP: NP/MSN (or advanced practitioner degree) with current California license or equivalent
  • PA: Physician assistant degree with current California license or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of cardiology experience, outpatient experience preferred 

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with clinicians, patients, administrators, auxiliary personnel, both in the clinic and hospital setting
  • Responsible for maintaining competence level, continuing education and scope of practice of NP, as documented in the Standardized Procedures and Protocols
  • Familiarity with the electronic medical records system
  • Knowledge of HIPAA standards
  • Maintain BLS and/or ACLS certification
  • Excellent organizational skills to independently manage work flow
  • Ability to prioritize quickly and appropriately
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Supports team patient care effort

 PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct history and physicals for new patients
  • Evaluation and manage primary, secondary and tertiary care for established patients
  • Provide patient/family education, utilizing established website resources
  • Document appropriate clinic information regarding visits and triage calls in the electronic medical record
  • Order various tests for patients
  • Interpret lab results
  • Order adjustments to patient’s plan of care and therapy
  • Provide same day and urgent care visits when necessary
  • Support clinical research studies
  • Monitor patients’ physiologic status utilizing remote device management systems
  • Submits billing for services rendered in a timely manner
  • Collaborates with treating physician
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by physicians; directs support staff
  • May perform other job-related duties as requested or required
