Title: Revenue Cycle Patient Support Specialist
Location: Hybrid, San Diego 
Hourly Range: Hourly $25.00 - $29.00 (Depending on Experience)  

Job Summary:

The Revenue Cycle Patient Support Specialist plays a key role in assisting patients and customers with billing inquiries, payments, and general questions related to their accounts. This position involves handling inbound and outbound calls, researching patient accounts, processing payments, and providing general guidance on insurance eligibility and coverage. The ideal candidate has experience in revenue cycle operations and is knowledgeable about insurance processes, payment collections, and customer service best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to incoming calls from patients regarding billing inquiries, account balances, and payment options.
  • Research and resolve patient billing issues by reviewing account history, insurance coverage, and payment records.
  • Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities, insurance eligibility, and payment plan options.
  • Process and post payments over the phone and provide receipts upon request.
  • Work closely with the billing team to escalate complex issues and ensure timely resolution of patient concerns.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits when needed to support patient billing inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate records of all patient interactions and account adjustments in the billing system.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations and confidentiality guidelines (HIPAA).

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in revenue cycle, billing, or a healthcare-related customer service role.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems. Experience with insurance eligibility verification tools is a plus.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex billing issues in a patient-friendly manner.
  • Customer Service: Proven ability to handle patient inquiries with empathy and professionalism.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to research and resolve billing discrepancies efficiently.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient data confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations, medical billing, or patient account management.
  • Knowledge of insurance eligibility verification processes and payer policies.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office, hospital billing department, or call center environment.
