Responsibilities             
       
Shamrock Trading Corporation is looking for a Vice President, Data Services to lead a growing data team. This individual will lead a team of engineers in modernizing Shamrock’s enterprise data services. They will partner and collaborate with stakeholders, IT leaders, and external partners to understand strategic opportunities, guide data innovation, and deliver impactful data solutions. They will be responsible for building and managing our data platform to provide our stakeholders with a single source of truth for their data needs. Design and deliver data solutions that power strategic initiatives, business analytics, machine learning, and data science. Set the direction of data governance to ensure a reliable, accurate, and performant data pipeline is available for the growing enterprise. The Vice President, Data Services at Shamrock will lead with both expertise and inspiration, fostering an environment where complex problem-solving and creative engineering flourish, responsible for:
  • Develop and communicate a clear vision of the data services technical future, ensuring alignment with business goals and market trends
  • Establish, own, and oversee data engineering best practices and enterprise data platform development, while focused on data architecture, data accessibility, data ingestion, data visualization, operational reporting, and analytics
  • Encourage a culture of innovation that balances cutting-edge development with practical, scalable solution by successfully building and leading the corporate data strategy
  • Demonstrate your deep understanding of data engineering through leading, mentoring, guiding, and growing a team of talented engineers to deliver cutting edge solutions to meet the needs of the business
  • Ensure the highest level of data availability, developing and implementing processes that ensure the stability and performance of our data applications
  • Clearly communicate engineering capacity and velocity, while serving as a coach to help business stakeholders and the data team prioritize work effectively
  • Responsible for data management services within the enterprise including data ingestion, data processing, data storage, and data usage within a data platform
  • Build collaborative relationships by working closely with cross-functional business and technical teams to refine engineering processes, aligning them with business requirements and technical vision
  • Lead the implementation of enterprise data pipeline(s) to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives
  • Elevate your team through coaching, professional development, and leading by example in data engineering craftsmanship
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within software engineering, ideally in transportation/financial technology or similar high-stakes, high-volume environments.
  • A deep understanding of technical data solutions and systems, ideally in the areas of data ingestion, API, data models, and data storage.
  • A results-oriented track record of successful technical strategy development and execution of simultaneous strategic initiatives.
  • Strong management and coaching skills, with experience in mentoring senior engineers and fostering a culture of continues improvement and excellence.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills fostering innovation solutions to keep the business moving forward.
  • Expertise in database systems (e.g. Postgres, MS SQL, Redshift, MongoDB) and familiarity with tools like Git, Jenkins, JIRA, and Confluence.
  • Experience ingesting, extracting, and manipulating data sets from a variety of sources, primarily cloud-based real-time data source, with focus on data governance into an enterprise data platform (e.g. Databricks).
  • A STEM background, coupled with a passion for transportation and financial markets and an appetite for tackling complex, distributed systems.
  • Experience with designing, implementing, loading, and indexing relational data structures.
  • Bachelor’s degree, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science or related technical field, plus 12+ years of data engineering and leadership experience.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, MBA, Data Engineering is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in distilling complex concepts and in collaborative project management.
  • This leadership position requires an onsite presence at Corporate Headquarters in Overland Park, KS.
