General Purpose of Job

This position is expected to perform a wide variety of billing duties, The position performs business analysis on utility billing activities such as researching billing history, auditing invoices, validating daily billing registers, researching member accounts to determine data errors, and proposing corrections. It  analyzes departmental processes and procedures and look for opportunities to improve efficiency. This position operates as a departmental subject matter expert. This position significantly contributes to the revenue cycle through skilled analysis and attention to detail. This position is valued for ensuring that new member implementations are successful, standard procedures are followed.

Education

 

Minimum 

2 Year / Associate Degree

Major:

Business Management, Accounting or closely related major

 

Experience

 

Minimum 

Three (3) years’ work experience in accounting, billing operations or general office work and customer service.

 

Preferred 

Experience or similar work with an electric utility or related industry.

 

Education and/or Experience Notes

Job related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

 

 

 

 

 Other Requirements

  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine.
  • Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations.
  • Normal work hours shall be eight (8) hours between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen.

  • Knowledge of intermediate accounting principles and math; procedures in handling account receivables; ability to learn the cooperative computerized utility billing system including rate composition and calculations; lockbox processing, and the application of rates.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of consumer accounting and an in-depth knowledge of all rates and rate structures for residential and commercial accounts
  • Perform detailed transactions accurately and review work for quality control of information, records and reports; effective communication skills including written, verbal and listening; ability to prepare all types of office correspondence; effective organization and documentation skills; detail oriented to complete assignments and meet deadlines; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent math skills and ability to prepare spreadsheets.
  • English is the primary business language. Second language in Spanish is desirable.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Accurately process and coordinate billing, new services, lockbox, etc. Monitors and distributes requests for information and service to Billing Specialists and documents the resolution.
  • Assembles all pertinent data to process and activate new services and maintains customer files on an ongoing basis to ensure that the customer information is accurate, and the customer is billed correctly. Performs routine customer account maintenance such as set up/change/delete auto-pays, e-bills, budget bill, address changes, etc.
  • Prepares billing for accounts that qualify for specialized program so that the customers are billed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Processes accounts receivable-electric revenue and kWh adjustments, sends revised bills, and makes budget billing adjustments to customer accounts to ensure that the customer is billed correctly, and the cooperative's accounts receivable is correct. Research and resolve discrepancies or conflicts with billing charges and respond to customer requests as directed.
  • Processes bankruptcies, tax exempt requests, deposit instruments such as surety bonds, certificates of deposits, etc.
  • Reviews, verifies, and updates Capital Credit payout request information.
  • Participate in the evaluation and documentation of business processes and facilitate the
  • implementation of business process improvements.
  • Provide analytical, report creation, and metric tracking support to the business unit and others as required. Prepare, analyze and distribute month end and year end data.
