Summary: 

Seagen is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual who will be responsible for managing and leading a team of program managers to support cross-functional strategic planning and execution for priority early-stage programs. This position will partner closely with key functional leaders to advance assets (pre-clinical through IND and early clinical development) and maximize the potential of the early pipeline. This leadership position will also help to strengthen and integrate program and portfolio activities across our development portfolio. The Sr. Director will report directly to the Vice President, Program & Portfolio Management. 

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Hires, coaches and manages a team of program managers who support the cross-functional global product teams for early stage products and career development within PPM 
  • Establish a close partnering relationship with functional leaders to ensure strategic and operational alignment for aspects that cut across the early pipeline portfolio to facilitate efficient execution across all programs 
  • Provide strategic guidance to teams through creation, governance approval, and execution of product strategies and integrated project plans appropriate to the phase of development and complexity of the program 
  • Work in close partnership with research and early development functional leaders to develop and present pipeline content including monthly dashboards, Board of Directors materials, program strategy reviews 
  • Serve as a key element connecting Research initiatives to how they will shape the future early clinical pipeline 
  • Develop and implement stage-appropriate and value-added processes, best practices and tools (integrated timelines, TPPs, stage gate process, governance, core & sub team processes) 
  • Leverage strong project and organizational knowledge, leadership and facilitation skills to position the program managers and their teams to drive effective governance and decision making 
  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally to coordinate, influence and advise on strategic and operational efforts to ensure alignment and seamless execution of the asset strategy 
  • Act as a point of escalation for early pipeline issues and risks. Insure appropriate visibility and support the teams in their response and risk management planning 
  • Provide oversight and support for research partnerships, ADC collaborations and early stage alliances 
  • Drive portfolio level program planning, including cross-functional resource planning, financial, due diligence and capacity assessments 
  • Build and leverage relationships and networks to improve and enhance team dynamics; proactively identifying opportunities and removing obstacles to drive business results 
  • Partner with Portfolio Management to improve ongoing program reporting and governance; define and track program metrics to enhance portfolio management and team performance 
  • Advance program management best practices and contribute to the operational excellence of Seagen’s program management function with a focus on continuous improvement 

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 15 years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience, with 5+ years of experience in cross-functional drug development and early-stage program management preferred 
  • Drug Development knowledge with understanding of other functions relevant to the position which may include: Research, Translational Sciences, Clinical, Manufacturing, Commercial and Regulatory 
  • Excellent business acumen, demonstrated ability to align teams to strategy to achieve business and project objectives 
  • A proactive and strategic thinker, with strong facilitation, problem-solving and issue resolution skills 
  • Proven staff management and mentoring experience and skills 
  • Highly collaborative with outstanding communication and relationship management skills, high emotional intelligence 
  • Adaptive leadership style and ability to influence teams without formal authority 
  • Experience leading and facilitating project team meetings, cross-functional communication and decision making, and ensuring ongoing alignment with internal/external stakeholders 
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed global organization 
  • Experience in biologics and oncology, experience working with alliance partners and in research collaborations is desirable 
  • PMP credential and experience with latest PM tools, software and processes highly valued 
  • Independent, motivated, team member with experience in a matrix environment 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, Ph.D.) in biomedical sciences, business or other discipline related to drug development highly preferred
