Summary: 

The Computational Biology (Comp Bio) group collaborates with colleagues from Research and stakeholders across the company to develop and evaluate targeted therapies for fighting cancer. This position contributes to the Comp Bio mission to support an increasing departmental focus on data-heavy decision-making. A successful candidate will have demonstrated technical proficiency, creativity, curiosity, cross-functional collaboration, and independent thought. 

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics engineer with expertise in bioinformatics, software development and cloud technologies to advance our industry-leading ADC technology.  This position will own specific expertise around the entire development lifecycle of tools, data democratization platforms and data processing pipelines that form the core of Comp Bio activities. The role will also participate in other core bioinformatics activities and analyses in the support of therapeutic design efforts.  The role may supervise contractor and/or FTE resources to meet their responsibilities. 

 
Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Design, deploy and maintain web-based tools for the democratization of sequencing and other high-throughput data relevant for Research drug discovery efforts.
  • Design UI/UX for use by discovery research scientists 
  • Design, deploy and maintain bioinformatics data processing pipelines and supporting infrastructure  
  • Working with IT, lead efforts to engineer cloud-based solutions for hosting pipelines and data platforms 
  • Partner with other teams across the company to synchronize on parallel analytics platforms 
  • Lead and champion change-management, source control and application deployment efforts 
  • Partner with groups across Research to guide and implement data architecture and data management best practices 
  • Identify, access and analyze public datasets related to the treatment of cancer 
  • Partner with Research stakeholders to perform customized data analysis 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, genomics or related field and 2+ years of post-graduate experience.  Equivalent professional experience will be also be given consideration 
  • Significant experience with bioinformatics pipelines, analyses and applications development 
  • Proficiency in R and Python programming 
  • 2+ years web-based application development, including, specifically, RShiny 
  • Commitment to thoughtful UI/UX design
  • Proficiency with standard coding best practices, change-management, source control, and application deployment (virtual and bare metal), including git and docker 
  • Experience with the development and deployment of data pipelines and applications in Microsoft Azure as well as experience with data lake architecture 
  • Proficiency with traditional relational database design as well as cloud-based implementation of SQL-like databases.   
  • Strong familiarity with ‘omics data, analysis, and applications, including RNA-seq, DNA-seq, etc. 
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (Spotfire, Tableau, R, Python) 
  • Excellent organization with attention to complete, readable documentation 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Commitment to collaboration and ability to work in a team environment 
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Background with molecular biology, genomics, or immunology a plus 
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting 
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated applications of machine learning and other modern data science techniques 
  • Experience using cancer-related datasets and portals such as TCGA and cBioPortal 
  • Experience supervising other developers a plus
