Summary:

The Associate Director of Software Engineering will be a seasoned leader responsible for delivering Seagen’s software engineering strategy and operations. As part of the Enterprise Technology Services group, the Software Engineering team is a new team comprised of engineers that are responsible for delivering high quality software solutions to business problems. This role is accountable for leading, mentoring and building a talented engineering team to scale the technology and capabilities to support innovative solutions to business problems in a regulated, hybrid cloud environment.

This team is additionally responsible for operational activities related to the services provided, including monitoring, support and pre-emptive system maintenance and remediation.


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the Software Engineering team
  • Mentor all levels of software engineers to improve standards of products and services
  • Drive Software engineering strategy, standards, and service definition
  • Develop a transformative roadmap, working closely with Enterprise Architecture and Information Security teams
  • Define and deliver Software Engineering goals and projects in line with the agreed roadmap
  • Implement an approach focused on UX, solution architecture, cloud native engineering and innovation
  • Champion the use of DevOps, agile, CI/CD, and other modern engineering practices
  • Support transition to "full stack engineering" and “infrastructure as code” conceptual approaches
  • Oversee technical designs providing high levels of reliability for systems while complying with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security standards, industry regulations and best practices
  • Responsible for the availability of custom software services
  • Ensure a 24 x 7 x 365 support capability working closely with cross functional teams to help remediate operations issues, as necessary
  • Define appropriate IT capital / expense budget planning & project resourcing schedules
  • Contribute to harmonization of Global IT policies, standards and procedures
  • Build strong relationships, working with cross functional teams to coordinate projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements/conflicts and vendor contract negotiation
  • Deliver effective people management of team members including hiring, workload management, coaching, development, performance management, discipline and termination
  • Maintain team adherence to company and department policies/procedures
  • Other duties as assigned by organization leadership

Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience, with at least 10 years in a software engineering leadership role
  • Previous hands-on work as a software developer, architect or other technical engineering role
  • Well versed in full stack software development, architecture and agile delivery
  • Direct knowledge of native cloud/PaaS/serverless patterns
  • Experience with Azure cloud services, highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in agile development, continuous integration/delivery, and DevOps
  • Experienced working and managing performance of third-party vendors and consultant arrangements in support of projects
  • Knowledge of ITSM, ITIL and SDLC best practices
  • Proven change agent in a complex, rapid growth environment
  • Solid understanding of information security, privacy frameworks, and related compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technology issues and solutions to non-technical senior leaders and executives
  • Ability to establish and manage multiple competing priorities and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple projects or activities simultaneously
  • Deep experience with leading people, mentoring and developing leaders
  • Highly collaborative with outstanding relationship building skills
  • Experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical, and/or medical device industry highly desirable
  • Direct knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, SOX and software validation processes is highly desirable

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology or related technical or scientific discipline OR equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications highly desired
