Summary: 

Seagen is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director, Strategic Alliances and Partnerships. This role will be responsible for providing alliance management expertise and maximizing alliance performance including the effectiveness, value, and overall success for strategic partnerships. The position with engage with internal and partner leaders at all levels to maximally leverage development and commercial stage alliances for both our company and our partners.  The goal is to enable alliances to deliver results consistent with strategic goals and to enhance our company’s relationships to secure the company’s reputation as a Partner of Choice.   
 
Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as alliance manager and lead day-to-day alliance activities, overseeing and managing joint governance activities and ensuring successful collaboration, initiation, and execution 
  • Serve as an alliance single point of contact, working closely with internal team members and senior leaders, and alliance counterparts to manage and advance joint goals and deliverables, contract issues, and overall health and success of the collaboration 
  • Oversee and support collaboration governance and operating norms (e.g. communication, decision-making, charters and best practices) including forming, managing and supporting joint committees and project teams 
  • Partner closely with internal cross-functional team members to ensure alignment with product goals, alliance operating principles and contractual terms and goals of the collaboration 
  • Proactively identify and resolve conflicts as needed or raise conflicts and disputes to appropriate management or committees for timely resolution while maintaining collaborative working relationships; ensure internal alignment prior to joint decisions 
  • Interface closely with corporate development and legal to clarify contractual aspects of collaboration agreements with the intent of providing guidance internally to team, committee members, and senior management to enhance the values of alliances, ensure appropriate boundaries are set and guide decision-making 
  • Work closely with internal team members and functional leaders to ensure ongoing alignment, prepare for key engagements, and manage escalation  
  • Support evolution of the alliances through their life cycles and key development and commercial inflection points 
  • Coordinate with internal business partners (e.g. finance, communications, legal, corporate development) to facilitate proactive partnership management and ensure strong alignment and coordination of key business activities 
  • Proactively track, monitor, and communicate contractual obligations and deliverables to ensure responsibilities met in accordance with terms of collaboration 
  • Proactively obtain collaborator feedback on the effectiveness of the collaboration.  Help to identify, facilitate, and steward changes where necessary and appropriate to maintain a highly effective collaboration 
  • Ensure that alliances are managed consistently, drive implementation of alliance management best practices, standard tools and approaches 
  • Contribute to the goal of establishing Strategic Alliances and Partnerships as a learning organization by adapting lessons learned, best practices, and training with the team and share learnings across the organization 
  • Participate in relevant partnering and industry conferences to represent Seagen, and contribute to securing the company’s reputation as partner of choice and identify external best practices for internalization 
  • Take on a leadership role in the Strategic Alliance function by contribute to the vision and strategy.  Focus on continuous improvement and assist/mentor new or less experienced team members 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biomedical sciences, business or other discipline related to drug development 
  • Minimum of 6 - 10 years of relevant drug development experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry – experience in oncology is desirable 
  • Minimum of 3 years in engagement, partnership or alliance manager role working with global partners required 
  • Experience working with and managing cross-functional teams, including joint leadership committees, to accomplish shared goals 
  • Excellent business acumen with demonstrated ability to develop solutions that support product, team, corporate and alliance objectives 
  • A proactive and strategic thinker, with strong facilitation, problem-solving and issue resolution skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to facilitate internal alignment, effectively and diplomatically negotiate and resolve conflict 
  • Highly collaborative with outstanding communication and relationship management skills, high emotional intelligence 
  • Adaptive leadership style with ability to influence teams without formal authority 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple client groups in a highly matrixed global organization to advance priorities 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, Ph.D.) in biomedical sciences, business or other discipline related to drug development highly preferred 
  • Established network within the biotech/pharma industry 
  • Knowledge and interpretation of contractual language
