Executive Director Investor Relations

Reporting to the Vice President, Investor Relations, the Executive Director, Investor Relations will work closely with the CEO, CFO and other leadership to support and help execute Seattle Genetics’ investor relations strategy and plans directed at the investment community, including current and prospective shareholders and research analysts. This role will play a key part in managing external relationships, developing strategic messages, and assuring strong and consistent communication with the investment community. The qualified candidate will be able to successfully interact at a senior level in the organization and possess strong executive presence and strategic understanding of the company and the biotechnology landscape. The position will collaborate across multiple functions including legal, finance, R&D, program management and corporate communications as well as with other members of the IR team in order to successfully deliver on IR activities of a growing, global multi-product oncology company.


  • Collaborate with the VP, Investor Relations to design and implement a proactive investor relations strategy and plan that is aligned with Seattle Genetics’ corporate goals
  • Assist in developing communication materials (presentations, Q&A, scripts, key messages/talking points, etc.) in collaboration with other senior leadership in preparation for investor and analyst events, roadshows, conferences, one-on-one meetings, site visits and announcements
  • Oversee the quarterly financial results process, including preparation of scripted remarks and accompanying slides, press release, anticipated Q&A, regulatory filings and other related materials in conjunction with finance, legal, communications, senior leadership and other IR team members
  • Create and manage a strong reputation by demonstrating consistent and clear communication between internal and external parties. Interact with the investment community on behalf of Seattle Genetics and be proficient at communicating the company mission and vision. Develop and maintain investor and analyst relationships. Handle day-to-day inquiries, ensuring that information provided complies with applicable SEC rules and regulations
  • Accompany executive leadership at financial and industry conferences and medical meetings to participate in meetings with institutional investors and analysts
  • Manage and/or participate in driving other IR initiatives, including special analyst and investor events (R&D days) and ESG-related efforts
  • Build strong relationships across Seattle Genetics to develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of the company’s products, strategy, operations and financial performance, in order to accurately represent these to the investment community and prepare other IR spokespeople
  • Manage equity research and investor relationships by developing strong understanding of competitive and therapeutic area landscape in order to contextualize Seattle Genetics’ products, pipeline and technology
  • Ensure IR messaging and positioning is consistent with internal and external communications
  • Conduct ongoing benchmarking and analysis of peers and industry trends to inform best-in-class IR program as the company grows
  • Work with legal counsel to ensure compliance on regulatory matters


  • Minimum of 15 years of related experience serving in investor relations and/or Wall Street-related roles of increasing scope and seniority
  • BA or BS required; advanced degree (MBA, CFA or relevant PhD or MD) a plus
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with a focus in investor relations, with experience in equity research, corporate strategy, finance or corporate communications; knowledge of global commercial biopharma business is strongly preferred
  • Strong executive presence and significant experience working with and influencing senior teams/executives
  • A proactive, strategic approach to investor relations and communications
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills and proven ability to interact with external and internal stakeholders effectively and credibly
  • Successful track record of interfacing with the investment community and established relationships with healthcare investors and analysts
  • Intimately familiar with financial modeling techniques and valuation methods used by analysts and investors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; commitment to excellence and attention to detail; strong organizational skills
  • Uncompromising ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment and the highest level of discretion; knowledge of SEC and disclosure requirements
  • Ability to work across multiple functional areas; comfortable both as an individual contributor and team player
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, variable and deadline-driven environment
