Summary: 

 

Seagen is seeking a Sr. Instrument Technician to support the Scientific Services Department within the Facilities Management group of the Real Estate & Facilities (REF) organization. This position will support the senior instrument technician and could work within other disciplines in the REF organization. The Senior Instrument Technician will be accountable to utilize their skills and experience to achieve the safe and accurate completion of tasks at their assigned location with minimal supervision. This position is responsible for performing advanced calibrations, maintenance, repairs, installations, troubleshooting and documentation of instruments used on process control systems, analytical labs and utility building systems for manufacturing and testing. The Senior Instrument Technician is expected to work to maintain equipment in a qualified state of control by following site SOP’s and the Change Management process. This position will work with cross functional departments on improvement initiatives, Deviation Investigations and CAPA. This role reports to the GMP Equipment Supervisor, Scientific Services Management.  
 
Principal Responsibilities 

  • Timely completion of tasks and work orders with appropriate documentation according to standard operating procedures, applicable standards, guidelines, practices, and policies 
  • Perform hands on advanced calibrations, diagnostics, repairs and maintenance of industrial process control instruments or systems, laboratory instruments and analyzers, and utilities in a cGMP/cGXP environment, while minimizing instrumentation and equipment downtime, ensuring that manufacturing operations and functional support departments are enabled to successfully make, assess and release Seagen drug products 24/7 
  • Programming/configuration of microprocessor-based equipment (PLCs, DCS, smart devices, critical monitoring, data loggers, etc.)
  • Work to be completed in a safe manner according to planning and predefined schedules with minimal impact to production while complying with GMP, SOP, CFR and Seagen regulations 
  • Interact with peers and clients in manufacturing, maintenance, analytical labs and contracted services 
  • Perform general labor duties and may work in a variety of locations and jobs
  • Lead and train lower level crafts persons in skills necessary to become proficient 
  • Lead projects and meetings
  • Coordinate various equipment OEM and vendor activities 
  • Conduct training, communications, and escort of equipment contractors, OEM and vendors 
  • Lead incident and deviation investigations  
  • Provide documentation support for the equipment Calibration & Maintenance program (commissioning, MEF equipment and task enrolment, equipment labeling) 
  • Complete various quality system and CMMS documentation, assist with the equipment enrollment process into the CMMS and Starlims (equipment, parts, procedures, measurement data templates, job plans, data sheet, etc.) 
  • Author and revise facility SOPs 
  • Safe operation of tools and shop equipment, housekeeping and safe execution of work in the field
  • Demonstrated proficiency to monitor, trend and analyze data to make corrections or recommendations
  • Lead systems start-up, new installations
  • Assistance with identification, purchase, and organization of spare parts
  • Initiate and champion instrument or equipment related Change Requests (CR)
  • Site technical Authority 
  • Support site audits  
  • Maintain Remote Monitoring equipment 
  • Participate in On-Call rotations and available for after-hours facility and manufacturing support and work outside of established shift hours upon short notice such, as evenings and weekends 

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or GED and one of the following
  • Associate degree or completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronics (2-year) curriculum at a technical school with 5+ years of work experience
  • 5+ years of instrumentation/calibration experience in manufacturing or biopharmaceutical in a GXP regulated environment field
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Organized and mechanically inclined
  • Effective team player and strong communicator
  • Ability to self-start and direct activities in the absence of the supervisor
  • Must have a strong knowledge of GxP equipment compliance requirements
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and procedures
  • Must have a strong knowledge of MS office applications
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering documents and schematics
