Summary: 

Reporting to the Senior Director, IT TVM, the IT Principal Vendor Manager aims to be the primary point of contact for IT vendors for technology equipment, licenses, services and vendor management.  This role will lead the vendor management lifecycle, working transversally with IT, purchasing, finance, and legal functions to support the vendor management discipline for technology at Seagen.  The role is tasked with ensuring technology and business requirements align to specifications and priorities, while mitigating and managing risk.  The position requires arbitration, risk mitigation, technical security awareness and the ability to overcome stalemates and escalations throughout the commercial negotiation with technology vendors and legal representatives. The role will act as a trusted advisor to IT leaders; and a mentor and consultant for junior peers. The IT Principal Vendor Manager must have experience with technology planning and budgeting as well as familiarity with effective vendor and supplier management strategies will all be critical to the success of this senior-level individual contributor and influencer. 

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrated experience implementing a vendor management program from vendor selection, strategic sourcing, vendor consolidation, migration from on-premise to cloud technologies and strategic vendor management for technology 
  • Create multi-year plans that defines when renewals are due; the HW depreciation schedule; & licensing metrics to begin negotiations within logical timing. Includes having a negotiation strategy for the renewals based on usage forecasting and the vendor sourcing strategy 
  • Ensure the appropriate commercial terms are included, while ensuring timely execution of final agreements. Agreement elements should include, but are not limited to: Service Level Agreements, data security/privacy, CCPA and GDPR regulatory requirements, DR/BR, implementation milestones, deliverables/requirements, early termination conditions, etc. 
  • Collaborate with the IT Functional Leaders, members of the PMO, Procurement, Purchasing, Legal, as well as cross-functional groups outside of IT 
  • Participate in IT strategic planning and other leadership meetings to ensure alignment and prioritization in technology selections and to help advance IT performance overall 
  • Design and continuously improve vendor management processes, including internal SLAs, responsible parties in the defined workflow, elements of managing vendors, required due diligence, risk assessments, and how stakeholders are informed 
  • Manage and provide leadership and guidance to the IT Department on vendor management practices, including a governance and decision-making framework 
  • Educate management, in the creation of pricing, and the creation of guidelines of Vendor Management lifecycle 
  • Identify appropriate strategic relationships in conjunction with internal customers and vendors to drive proper alignment on business and operational requirements 
  • Lead the cost savings strategies and initiatives to achieve financial and productivity objectives to support department and corporate initiatives 
  • Conduct risk identification, mitigation, & monitoring for operational, strategic, financial, regulatory, & compliance risk associated with vendors 
  • Create necessary metrics and required information to monitor and document vendor performance to be delivered through business reviews and vendor scorecards 
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent and diverse communications to effectively reach all groups and all levels of leadership 
  • Work with senior leaders in a blend of tactical and strategic work, executing complex or specialized projects 
  • Define and lead the negotiation strategy and approach for assigned services to govern the selection, evaluation, cost & price details for selected vendors 

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of experience with technology contract negotiations, with emphasis on Software as a Service, and cloud technology (Azure, Google) 
  • 10+ years’ experience in Technology Vendor Management, related Technology Management or Technology Program Management with heavy third-party service provider or supplier management 
  • Minimum 15 years vendor experience managing strategic vendor relationships with a BA or 10 years of experience with an MA or equivalent work experience 
  • Extensive experience managing stakeholder relationships at a leadership level 
  • Track record of significant savings with contract negotiations 
  • Ability to align key technology vendors with specific project initiatives 
  • Proven track record in supporting executive alignment and strategic vendor management for technology vendors 
  • Experience in process management and leading teams (direct, indirect, and consultants) 
  • Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrable ability to successfully interact with internal and external business partners at senior levels in a global environment 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with working with international/global organizations to support necessary expansion outside of the United States 
  • Understanding of ServiceNow preferred
