Vice President, Tax

The Vice President of Tax will set the vision for and gain alignment from Seagen leadership and board for the company’s Tax strategy, advise the company on tax implications of major strategic decisions and transactions as well as continue to build a high performing and scalable tax function to support a global multi-product organization .  The role will provide oversight to both the tax  team and plays an important role on the Finance leadership team.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Set strategic vision for Company’s tax structure with goal of minimizing the consolidated tax rate and cash-tax costs of the global business
  • Advise on corporate development transactions including global partnerships as well as Mergers and Acquisitions. Play a key role enabling and integrating acquisitions
  • Optimize the corporate structure to align with and support the business operations
  • Effectively communicate tax objectives and strategies to company leadership and board of directors
  • Ensure alignment of external and internal tax resources to support business requirements
  • Develop and manage the global transfer pricing program including regular monitoring
  • Guide strategies to minimize tax risk and costs relating to the company’s entry into new geographic markets
  • Provide oversight of the Company’s tax provision, financial statement reporting and related disclosures. Understand the differences between local Stat/GAAP and US GAAP treatment of major items in the company's key jurisdictions
  • Provide guidance on impact of capital structure strategies such as convertible debts on Seagen’s tax position
  • Oversee tax compliance working with 3rd party service providers and the tax team
  • Manage and provide oversight of tax matters including audits
  • Provide technical advice related to income and non-income tax issues as requested
  • Develop and implement tax policies
  • Provide career development opportunities and succession planning of team
  • Manage relationship with credit insurance partners to support the business
  • Establish and maintain global banking relationships


Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years’ experience in a combination of a large corporation or accounting firm
  • 10+ years’ experience in international tax planning and/or treasury management, cash management
  • Experience working at a global company with diverse operations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US, EU, and other international corporate tax requirements
  • Extensive tax accounting and general corporate accounting expertise
  • Demonstrates executive presence and intellectual capability
  • Leadership skills, business acumen and strategic agility
  • Ability to work and communicate with operational and corporate finance personnel and influence decision-making at all levels of management
  • Experience working with auditors
  • Experience leading a team, including direct supervision and mentoring
  • BS/BA in accounting or related field


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successfully scaled a tax organization at a rapidly growing company
  • Leadership role at company with international operations
  • MS/MA in Tax, JD or equivalent MBA/CPA
