POSITION SUMMARY:                
This position provides sales support and generates business for all Seaboard Marine services. To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • Two (2) years of customer service and/or sales support experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively, at an intermediate to advanced level, in a business environment. Must possess strong communication skills to secure new developing business.
  • Intermediate computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with demanding customers and fellow employees.
  • Must have organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and respond to common inquiries promptly.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to work in a goal-oriented team, multi-task, and function comfortably in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility towards adapting to changing market trends and conditions.
  • Ability to think logically, follow instructions, and make sound decisions within established systems and procedures.
  • Flexibility to attend industry events, conferences, trade shows, and accompany Account Executives on customer visitation as required by sales management.
  • Ability to travel domestically if necessary.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, holidays and/or weekends.
Preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish at an intermediate level in a business environment.
  • Experience in ocean transportation or related industry.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
  • Oversee the overall performance and progress of assigned accounts with a focus on maintaining and generating business.
  • Foster strong business relationships and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.  
  • Maintain a close line of communication with sales staff, commercial divisions, agencies, and domestic/overseas offices, to secure and develop new business, and ensure a high-quality service.
  • Plan and manage an active call cycle with all account base within the area of direct responsibility, in accordance with the standards and directives of management.
  • Properly manage service contracts under the assigned portfolio and process renewals based on time criteria set by sales management.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer records updated according to Sales Standards and Procedures (i.e. account profiles, corporate and sales hierarchy, contact information, etc.).
  • Receive, research, and respond to customer inquiries and requests promptly and efficiently.
  • Problem-solving on behalf of customers and Account Executives.
  • Support sales objectives as set by management in accordance with specific company goals and directives.
  • Focus on supporting Account Executives and generating new business by analyzing sales leads, dock reports, reviewing competitor statistics, and manifest reports., targeting key and/or new accounts.
  • Keep abreast of tariff changes, including new regulations and changes in rate applicability. Maintain a proactive line of communication with the Pricing departments and domestic/overseas offices on related issues.
  • Utilize all designated resources and tools in the daily job functions (i.e. Stars Tariff Retrieval System, Sales & Marketing Revenue Reports, Trade Database, etc.).
Secondary
  • Keep management informed of any issues concerning areas of responsibility.
  • Attend department meetings, as well as occasional trade shows, industry events, and/or in-person offsite meetings with customers.
  • Perform related duties as required by management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use his fingers.   
  • The employee is continuously required to talk and/or hear.   
  • The employee is continuously required to sit, stand, or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direct supervision from the Sales Manager. Does not exercise supervision over any position but may request the assistance of office/clerical staff.

CONDITIONS:
  • Exposed to indoor office environment and controlled temperature.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor environment and temperatures, when attending events, trade shows, and accompanying Account Executives to visit customers.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to busy due to phone in open cubicles.
