Summary
The Unisys MCP System Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the Unisys ClearPath MCP environment. This role ensures system reliability, security, performance, and availability of mission-critical mainframe applications. The administrator supports daily operations, system configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting while collaborating with infrastructure, application, and vendor teams.

- A Competitive Salary Range: $105,000 - $115,000
- Base salary may vary based on factors such as location, skills, and relevant experience. Some positions may include additional compensation in the form of bonuses or commission

Responsibilities
The Unisys MCP System Administrator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- System Administration & Operations
- Administer and maintain the Unisys MCP operating system, including system configuration, startup, shutdown, and upgrades
- Manage system consoles and operator functions to support daily operations
- Workload & Job Management
- Control job queues, scheduling, and workload prioritization
- Monitor batch and online processing to ensure timely and accurate execution
- Agile Business Suite Runtime
- Manage Azure Pipeline scripts
- AB Suite MCP Build Process
- AB Suite MCP Application
- Configurations
- Database
- Ispecs
- Reports
- Security Administration
- Manage user accounts, roles, and access controls within the MCP environment
- Enforce security policies and support audit and compliance requirements
- Unisys MCP Database Administration
- Knowledge of DASDL
- Database Utilities
- MCP SQL
- Storage & File Management
- Administer disk storage, file systems, and data sets
- Execute backup, recovery, and archival processes to ensure data integrity
- DSI Virtual Tape Library and Tape Manager Utilities
- Performance Monitoring & Tuning
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization (CPU, memory, I/O)
- Identify and resolve performance issues to maintain system efficiency
- Networking & Communications
- Support system connectivity and communications between MCP and external systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve communication-related issues
- Disaster Recovery & Continuity
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution
- Ensure recovery processes meet organizational continuity requirements
- System Utilities & Reporting
- Utilize MCP utilities for system management, diagnostics, and reporting
- Maintain system logs and operational reporting
- Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain system documentation and operational procedures
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve issues and support system improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Alternatively, equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- 12 years of experience of professional IT/ system administering and some experience with Unisys ClearPath MCP
- Hands-on experience with system operations, job control, and workload management in a production environment
- Strong understanding of MCP operating system architecture, system commands, and utilities
- Experience managing batch and online processing, including job queues and scheduling
- Knowledge of disk/storage management, file structures, and data handling within MCP
- Familiarity with system performance monitoring and tuning (CPU, memory, I/O)
- Understanding of system-level security, user administration, and access controls
- Experience troubleshooting system, job processing, and performance issues
- Ability to support system upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities
- Familiarity with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to document processes, procedures, and system configurations
- Effective communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Skills and Experience (Preferred)
- Experience with Unisys Enterprise Output Manager.
- Knowledge of Virtual Tape Library (VTL) systems.
- Experience working on HR and Payroll Systems.
- Familiarity with legacy systems and their integration with modern technologies.
- Knowledge of the AB Suite runtime environment and deployment processes.
