Account Manager - Commercial
Description
The ideal candidate is personable, reliable, and genuinely enjoys working with clients on an ongoing basis. They bring 3-5 years of account management or client-facing sales experience, a familiarity with the Chicago commercial market, and a natural ability to keep clients engaged and satisfied.
- Competitive base salary: $90,000 - $110,000 annually, plus commission
- Base salary may vary based on location, experience, skills, and overall qualifications
- Comprehensive benefits package including:
- Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- Company-paid Life Insurance
- Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Coverage
- 401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match
- Employee Wellness Program
- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Additional employee benefits and professional development opportunities
- Manage a defined portfolio of commercial accounts, serving as the primary day-to-day relationship contact for each assigned client.
- Drive contract renewals across the account base, working proactively to understand client needs, address concerns, and secure continued business ahead of renewal deadlines.
- Conduct regular check-ins and periodic account reviews with clients to assess satisfaction, review solution performance, and identify any gaps or evolving needs.
- Identify potential expansion opportunities within existing accounts — such as new service lines, additional users, or adjacent business units — and flag these to SDI's sales team for follow-up and pursuit.
- Serve as a connector between the client and SDI's internal delivery and solutions teams, helping to resolve issues and ensure commitments are being met.
- Maintain up-to-date account records and renewal pipeline in CRM, and provide regular status updates to sales leadership.
- Work closely with SDI's Xchange team as a core part of this role. A portion of the assigned account portfolio will consist of commercial clients that originated through or are actively engaged with the Xchange program. The Account Manager will maintain and grow these relationships in close coordination with the Xchange team, ensuring continuity of service, supporting apprentice placements where applicable, and identifying opportunities to expand the broader SDI relationship within those accounts.
- Represent SDI professionally in client interactions, contributing to a positive and lasting impression of the company.
- 3-5 years of experience in account management, client success, or a client-facing sales role, preferably within IT services, managed services, or technology solutions.
- Experience working with mid-market and/or large enterprise commercial accounts in the Chicago area.
- Comfortable managing ongoing client relationships and navigating renewal conversations with confidence and professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills — this person is approachable, follows through, and makes clients feel well-supported.
- Ability to recognize when a client conversation surfaces a new business opportunity and communicate that effectively to the internal sales team.
- Organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage a portfolio of accounts and keep renewal timelines on track.
- Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce or equivalent) for account tracking and pipeline reporting.
- Must be based in Chicago and available for regular in-person client engagement.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Familiarity with IT managed services, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), ServiceNow, or related enterprise technology offerings.
- Experience working within or selling to commercial verticals such as financial services, real estate, professional services, or healthcare.
- Exposure to workforce development, apprenticeship programs, or talent placement solutions.
