Position Title: Safety and Training Manager

Location: Neenah, WI

Description:

Provide strategic leadership and management at the Neenah Mill and Neenah Converting Center to achieve targeted facility, BU and company safety and training objectives.  Priority focus on the safety and value of employees through risk reduction and active learning, while driving continual improvement in training, engagement, and system quality and utilization. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Analyzes incident, hazard and near-miss trends in facilities and lead safety strategy based on prioritized risk reduction working with operations leadership and engineering on solutions

 

  • Manages and directs Neenah Mill/Neenah Converting Center hourly Safety Advocates, Training Coordinators and Mill Scheduler in a manner that reduces risk, improves safety and training strategy, and identifies gaps with skill and material development opportunities.

 

  • Develop a comprehensive skills development cycle to sustain knowledge and personal accountability of hourly workforce and managers that systematically ensures continuous improvement.
    • Routine gap analysis of the current training program.
    • Pursuit and implementation of improved tools, technology and systems
    • Improved SOP and training materials, both in breadth and depth
    • Defined on the job training, training qualification procedures and sign off requirements
    • Re-qualification of trained employees for consistency in execution
    • Ensures all needed safety policies are communicated in meeting format annually.
    • Ensures Federal and State training (OSHA, HazMat, HAZWOPER) is completed in meeting format annually.
    • Leads Joint Safety Steering Team Meeting on a consistent cadence and ensures completion of action items identified.
    • Develop and implement recognition program to support driving safety culture commitment.
    • Support hourly facility Safety Teams and ensure activities align with safety strategy.
    • Responsible for ensuring 100% compliance on all facility level regulatory safety items.
    • Promote hazard recognition and incident reporting of all types (near miss, first aid, property damage, etc.) in areas of responsibility.
    • Demonstrate safety leadership by actively seeking intentional learning and pursue solutions.
    • Responsible for the periodic communication of open work orders with an emphasis on those related to safety, including items that contribute to process or property losses.
    • Responsible for facilities’ completion of all DSRs, training material creation/updates, lock-out procedures, control vetting and employee training assigned, prior to commissioning of new or altered equipment.
      • Emphasis on pre-install and build/support systems for new equipment installations, engineered solutions, and process modifications. (vs. post-install/modify/change).
    • Responsible to support all Incident Investigations (safety and property damage) occurring on assigned shift or in area of responsibility, using appropriate investigation techniques and comprehensive reporting.
    • Responsible for following corporate guidelines on employee follow-up for all injuries or incidents of injury entered on assigned shift or in area of responsibility.
    • Responsible for ensuring 100% compliance on pre-use inspections, LOTO, Confined Space, Line Break, and Hot Work for facilities. 
    • Neenah sites’ leader for SKEMA (Safety Key Element Maturity Assessment) for system health  
    • Responsible to expeditiously communicate any policy changes.
    • Manages postings for companywide HiPo/Recordable incident postings, action items, and maintains Safety Balanced Scorecard

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or experience with emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety or similar field
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Safety and Training related role with emphasis in strategy.
  • Professional knowledge of federal standards (OSHA, ANSI, EPA, DOT) for a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk reduction techniques, including machinery safety, ergonomics, PIT and occupational health.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills required, with ability to visualize and strategize to achieve continuous and intentional risk reduction.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals in all functions of the business
  • Strong computer system skills including MS Office – ERP (Oracle), Velocity EHS, etc. are great additions.
