Position Title: EHS Specialist
Location: Brownville
Description: 
Our EHS Specialist supports Mativ’s PKGSP - Packaging & Specialty Papers team, at our Brownville, NY Mill a Mativ company (“Mativ”). This individual will collaborate with our, operations, and business teams at our Brownville, NY location. The Environmental Specialist will actively assess federal, municipal, and Mativ environmental initiatives and keep the management team informed of these initiatives and the performance outcomes they require. This position reports organizationally to the EHS Manager. This is an onsite position. 
responsibilities: 
Successful candidate will perform a wide range of EHS related assignments, with assistance from the EHS Manager, including but not limited to the descriptions below: 
ENVIRONMENTAL: 
Manage monitoring and reporting requirements for environmental regulations and support site environmental programs including but not limited to:
  • Maintain the facility’s regulatory permit compliance requirements and chemical management of the facility (SARA Title III, Title V, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), SPCC, SPDES, etc.)
  • Manage wastewater operations in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Understand and manage the environmental compliance needs and chemical management of the facility.
  • Keep the EHS Manager informed of all environmental issues that could have a negative on the goal of achieving zero accidents, create a legal liability, and/or affect compliance with company or regulatory requirements.
  • Provide regular input to the EHS Manager on what is required for continual environmental improvements.
  • Monitor environmental legislation and proposed regulatory changes that can impact the Mativ group of companies and keep the EHS Manager apprised of these changes in a timely manner.
  • Assist in compiling information for all regulatory and internal environmental reporting.
  • Develop documents necessary to maintain an effective environmental protection program and assist the EHS Manager in maintaining the EHS Program Manual and related documents pertaining to environmental protection.
  • Develop and deliver training pertaining to protection of the environment as may be required to support operations, including participation in start-up meetings.
  • Periodically attend on-site safety meetings such as to support operations personnel on environmental issues.
  • Maintain currency on applicable company policies, practices, procedures, etc., and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with environmental regulatory enforcement agencies as required to assist operations personnel for issues that arise from related regulatory inspections.
HEALTH: 
  • Assist in compliance of employee health policies including injury management, accident investigations to determine root cause of incidents, and application of corrective action plans 
  • Maintain the site’s chemical safety data sheets library and system
SAFETY:  
  • Support Safety and Health as needed
  • Assist with promoting & driving the corporate safety program, to build the site vision of a Zero incident culture, including but not limited to conducting employee safety observations, and other employee engagement activities on the shop floor
  • Participate in conducting new employee safety orientations, routine safety training and tool box talks
  • Participate in the site Management of Change process
qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or Environmental Technology (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of environmental issues relevant to wastewater treatment systems and technologies.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements applicable to industrial processes.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and a team player.

The annual salary range for this position is anywhere from $65,000 to $80,000
