Description

The Sr. Manager of Research and Development oversees the execution of the development process for the Packaging & Specialty Papers Business Unit. This leader works closely with multiple business functions to ensure business and new product development are aligned to execute the business strategy and is responsible for the development and management of the R&D team.

Responsibilities:

• Manages a team of research scientists and project managers to execute projects within the business unit’s Stage Gate process.
• Leads a team of technical SME’s focused on creating new products, improving existing products, and helping customers solve our most complex product challenges.
• Oversees the Stage Gate process from ideation to launch, continuously improving the process focusing on timelines, budgets, commitments, and measurement.
• Evaluates the performance of new products and margins and works to continuously improve the process.
• Collaborates with product managers to establish an effective pipeline of projects.
• Provides subject matter expertise to improve technology, creates capital projects, and builds business cases to execute the company strategy.
• Provides regular updates and communications to leadership regarding progress on projects and initiatives.
• Leads, develops and mentors junior research scientists, ensuring skill advancement.
• Leads initiatives to help supply chain and manufacturing reduce dependencies on sole sourced raw materials and manufacturing routes.

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in the Paper industry or Engineering discipline preferred.
• 10+ years of technical roles in related fields.
• 3-5 years’ experience leading R&D teams strongly preferred.
