A clear leader in specialty underground construction, Schnabel is looking for a shop and field heavy equipment mechanic. This role supports our equipment yards and field personnel with repairs and maintenance to our heavy equipment. This includes small equipment such as skid steers, boom lifts, rough terrain forklifts, mini excavators, and more. This will also include our tieback drills and vertical drill rigs. Welding will be a necessity for this position.
As a company we were founded in 1959 in Washington DC and have grown to become one of the nation’s top geostructural contractors. Family owned and operated, we are in a stage of heavy growth and adding another mechanic to our team is key to our overall business goals.
Our typical scope of work includes installation of piles, lagging, walers, braces, and more for support of excavation projects. We also take on projects with underpinning, grouting, tunneling, and unique wall structures as part of their scope.
Qualifications
- Desire to work in a team atmosphere
- Energetic, with a positive attitude
- Basic mechanical skills
- Mechanical experience with construction equipment is a huge plus
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
- Must be able to work an 8-10 hour shift
- Must be able to travel occasionally to repair and maintain company equipment
- High School diploma or GED required
- Must be at least 18 years of age

Schnabel is looking for a Project Manager to join our Preconstruction team. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience working with geotechnical or heavy civil construction firms on either the construction or pre-construction side with the ability to close deals and grow the business. Your main responsibility is to build relationships and successfully win us profitable work.

This role reports directly to the Regional Vice President and other leadership as necessary.
Our typical scope of work includes installation of soldier piles, micropiles, lagging, walers, tiebacks, and braces for support of excavation projects. We also take on challenging projects with underpinning, grouting, tunneling, and unique structural support as part of our scope. Candidates who have direct construction experience and familiarity with our company’s traditional scope of work are preferred.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead sales and business development activities in specific market
- Identify the best clients, opportunities, and technologies
- Develop an overall strategy for building client relationships
- Coordinate with other team members to determine the best way to build the project and win the work
- Estimating, engineering, writing, site visits, and client meetings
- Prepare and deliver proposals to clients
- Negotiating the contract
- Coordinating designs and submittals
- Facilitate turning over the project to the Operations Team after project award
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and engineers
- Identify and implement improvements to processes, procedures and products
Qualifications
- Bachelors in civil engineering, construction engineering, or construction management preferred
- 5+ years of heavy civil construction or geotechnical estimating and/or project management experience
- Ability and willingness to travel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to perform critical thinking and creative problem solving

Schnabel is looking for an operating engineer to assist with the building of specialty underground structures. Our goal is to find a Geotechnical Drill Operator or Equipment Operator with experience in the safe operation of tieback and micropile drills (Klemm, Comacchio, Hutte) related to geotechnical construction. Heavy preference to those that can operate vertical drill rigs (Bauer / Liebherr).

As a driller you will work with your project manager and field supervisor to install tieback anchors, soldier beams, micropiles, and more.
Job Responsibilities
- Be responsible for safe and proper operation or drill rigs and associated equipment
- Follow all of Schnabel’s safety regulations
- Complete inspection and maintenance logs, and documentation as required
- Clean drill rigs, trucks, and equipment
- Work closely with site leadership to ensure that scope of work is being met within a timely schedule
- Manage your scope of work appropriately to minimize job cost
- Always wear appropriate PPE as assigned by job site supervisor
- Travel with crews within a regional area
Qualifications
- Proven ability to operate mentioned equipment proficiently and safely
- Minimum of 2 years of documented experience operating drill rigs proficiently
- High level of focus in a construction environment that is very busy and noisy
- Current certification for vertical and/or tieback drill rig or willing to obtain certification
- Ability to lift and carry 80 pounds of materials over rough terrain
- Regional travel and the ability to stay out of town frequently
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Driver’s license and a safe driving record – preferably with CDL
Pay will be based on local union wage scales.

The role’s main responsibility is to ensure the successful installation of our geostructural solution on time and under budget. The work is to be built in accordance with plans, specifications, and agreed upon scope of work. You will also mentor and develop our field staff.

Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, staff, direct, coordinate, and control the construction of a project to ensure its safe completion within budget and on schedule per Schnabel’s policy and procedures
- Ensure that the work is built productively in accordance with the plans and specifications
- Partner with our safety department to maintain a safe worksite that complies with OSHA requirements and Schnabel safety policies
- Ensure that each worker onsite knows their job and has the support from leadership to complete it
- Develop training opportunities for engaged and responsible employees
- Ensure equipment onsite is well maintained, available, and clean
- Review and prepare all onsite documentation in a timely manner, including daily reports and job site safety records
- Communicate with the client and internal project manager to navigate the challenges during active construction
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a field supervisory role with heavy preference to those with geotechnical or geostructural experience
- Ability to travel and stay local to the project you are building
- Safety oriented, working knowledge of OSHA policy
- Computer literate and comfortable with Microsoft Office products such as Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Able to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution
- Well-organized and able to delegate tasks to qualified crew members
- Self-starter, motivator, innovator, and leader
