South Carolina Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a Loss Prevention Operations Specialist to join our team of outstanding Loss Prevention professionals in North Charleston, SC.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Maintain an open line of communication with all levels of Loss Prevention Management to ensure a positive and clear understanding of credit union goals and direction and that all policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Support Loss Prevention in all department functions to include overflow calls as required.
  • Keep informed of current laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Communicate with members, financial centers, insurance and repossession companies, courts, and attorneys on a daily basis regarding Bankruptcy, Repossession, Total Loss, Probate, Collateral Protection Insurance (CPI), Magistrate/Legal, Delinquent and Charged-off accounts.
  • Bankruptcy Accounts. Review and respond to court documents; set up and maintenance accounts; file and update proof of claims and reaffirmation agreements; recommend further action (repossession, legal action, and charge-off); ensure accurate credit reporting; process trustee payments; and correspond with trustees and attorneys.
  • Repossession Accounts. Facilitate the recovery and remarketing of the credit union's repossessed collateral; perform research and skip tracing; communicate with dealerships, repossession companies, tow companies, auctions, and attorneys; negotiate payment plans; issue required notices; ensure accurate credit reporting; oversee inventory control; cancel back-end products; file repo damage and secretion claims; verify and post auction proceeds; recommend further action (legal action and charge-off); and maintain vendor contracts.
  • Total Loss Accounts. Negotiate and coordinate settlements with insurance companies for total loss accounts; process and forward guarantee of titles; cancel back-end products and follow up with dealerships until received; process insurance payments; and file GAP and DPW claims.
  • Probate Accounts. Communicate with the personal representative and/or estate attorney for deceased accounts; file creditor’s claims and life insurance claims; process claim payments; review inventory and property information; and represent the credit union at estate hearings when necessary.
  • Collateral Protection Insurance (CPI). Obtain and verify proper insurance coverage; monitor reports to ensure premiums and refunds are posted; audit and maintenance accounts; file total loss claims; and process claim payments.  
  • Act as backup for the Loss Prevention Support Specialist in the areas of Extensions, Reages, reports, and attending Court of Commons Pleas.
  • Continually explore different avenues of recovery.
  • Balance GLs; complete charge-off projections; prepare month-end reports and statistics for management to meet the deadline imposed. 

 

Minimum qualifications include:

 

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years of similar or related collections, repossession, and bankruptcy law experience within a financial services work environment.
  • Possess working knowledge of lending practices, small claims court, and financial terms.
  • Possess excellent communication skills where courtesy, accuracy, and clarity are essential.
  • Possess negotiating skills and the ability to resolve problems.
  • Possess time management and organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently with frequent interruptions.
  • Possess the ability to analyze situations and make solid decisions with exceptional judgment.
  • Possess basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Possess intermediate mathematical skills performing calculations involving decimals, percentages, etc.
  • Possess ability to travel to all areas of the State of SC for appearance in judicial settings as necessary.
