South Carolina Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team of outstanding IT professionals in North Charleston, SC.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Mentor and support IT project members to develop specifications, requirements, and any associated technical documentation. (Flowcharts, diagrams).
  • Manage and implement designated tactical projects.
  • Design and develop feature functionality to include: modification of existing systems or programs, managing 3rd party vendors, conducting alpha and beta testing to ensure adherence to design requirements, and regression testing if applicable.
  • Transition new processes to the appropriate IT personnel by providing training and documentation.
  • Manage firmware and OS updates with external vendors for core system and third party applications.
  • Responsible for installs, updates, and maintenance of any third party software products which support the efficient and effective operation applicable IT systems.
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain IT task list as it relates to assigned projects.
  • Manage time and prioritize projects to fit within scope of physical work week as well as constraints of the project requested.
  • Create, review, and maintain technical documentation.
  • Analyze project issues and recommend corrective action that has the least impact to the credit union.
  • Establish standards and procedures for program testing.
  • Effectively communicate regular status updates and scope changes for active projects.  Escalate any issues or challenges to management in a timely manner.
  • Establish implementation schedules and procedures for related daily operations.
  • Analyze and implement credit union systems for optimal functional effectiveness and end user efficiency optimizing the use of technology.
  • Research technical issues and implementation of solutions.
  • Provide live and post-live day support to include answering questions, updating support documentation, identifying additional training needs, in-person support, working with the vendor or end users, and communicating concerns to IT management.
  • Resolve emergency situations involving applicable system software and hardware as they relate to areas of responsibility.
  • Implement projects as assigned by the IT management team.
  • Consult with managerial staff, project staff to clarify product/service intent, functions, features, data requirements, input requirements, output requirements, internal and external controls, hardware and operating environment, and interfaces with other systems.
  • Provide technical and non-technical support for core system and 3rd party applications. 
  • Direct revisions of existing programs and back office job processes to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.  Analyze systems and processes for functional effectiveness and support of excellent member service.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of the credit union’s Technology plan.
  • Responsible for managing and assisting with the preparation and implementation of the IT Business Continuity plan; actively participate in annual testing and preparation.
  • Review, analyze and make recommendations for system and process improvement.
  • Assist, as needed, with corporate wide upgrades, releases and rollouts.
  • Assist and support on-call personnel as both an escalation point and primary contact as necessary for issues after hours.
  • Monitor and respond to I.T. help desk requests adhering to the I.T. service level agreement standards.
  • Monitor and respond to system generated events (alerts) in adherence to the event management guidelines.
  • Adhere to the change management guidelines and processes.
  • Provide backup support to the Operations team as a technical resource for complex issues
  • Provide technical and non-technical assistance, to include, but not limited to, monitoring and fulfilling IT help desk requests, responding to inquiries, researching and identifying issues as well as determining, recommending and implementing solutions.
  • For contingency purposes, all Information Technology employees must support the installation of a IPSEC hardware tunnel into their homes or be able to connect reliably utilizing the VPN software.  Where internet is not commercially available, the employee is required to support the installation of a hardware based cellular MPLS connection into their home.  Employees must use either the soft phone or a polycom phone tied to their 4-digit extension. 

 

Minimum qualifications include:

 

  • Possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Possess a minimum of eight years of experience as a system analyst or in an IT operational role managing core financial system applications in a complex technical environment or similar or related experience.
  • Possess a minimum of six years computer programming experience.
  • Possess a minimum of four years project management experience.
  • Possess the demonstrated ability to lead and direct others.
  • Possess extensive working knowledge of core system software.
  • Possess extensive working knowledge in Unix Operation System and utilities, Hewlett Packard hardware, UC4 Scheduler, Visimage, and Veritas backup solutions.
  • Possess in-depth working knowledge/exposure of mainframe functions.
  • Possess in-depth working knowledge of core processing software and the related hardware and software products.
  • Possess in-depth working knowledge of windows server and associated applications.
  • Possess in-depth working knowledge of relational database structure and maintenance
  • Possess knowledge of Oracle and SQL databases.
  • Possess knowledge of Linux.
  • Possess advanced proficiency in two or more Microsoft software programs.
  • Possess the ability to be available for after hour assignments and emergencies, as necessary.
  • Possess in-depth judgment and decision-making capabilities in order to solve major, complex problems.
  • Possess demonstrated ability to learn independently from technical documentation.
  • Possess well-developed communication skills where discretion, accuracy, and clarity are essential.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Possess advanced mathematical skills.

*This position is a 6-month temporary opportunity with the potential to convert to permanent employment. If selected, you will be employed through a 3rd party agency during the 6-month period.
