We are looking for an expert in their field, someone who is obsessed with the details of mobile first, skillfully applied digital design. We need someone who gets lost in the experience and cares about what happens when the user taps, clicks, scrolls, or swipes. They will be responsible for blending aesthetics with function in the user interface, creating rich prototypes with animations, motion, behaviors, and transitions, using design tools and code. With a constant pulse on current trends and best practices, this designer enjoys maintaining an ever-growing reference gallery of delightful mobile, desktop, and digital product experiences. They use this growing knowledge to assist in the crafting of beautiful, engaging, user-centered materials to be developed for websites supported by the Marketing department. In addition to being an excellent designer and avid collector of exceptional digital experiences, the Sr. Web Designer is a storyteller. They are at home pitching concepts to executive leadership and business owners, assisting the Creative Director as an ambassador for good design and meaningful brand experiences for our customers.

Essential Functions

  • Creates and tests high-quality, interactive designs and prototypes for desktop, web and mobile devices.
  • Designs interfaces with animations, motion, behaviors, and transitions to add delight and improve usability on digital properties with a balance of innovation and brand consistency.
  • Turns rudimentary wireframes or high-fidelity mockups into delightful and engaging prototypes, ready to be developed.
  • Collaborates daily with a team of visual designers, UX designers and researchers, developers, motion graphic animators, and content writers to develop meaningful, effective, and functional designs.
  • Assists in the prioritization of MVP features and build a backlog.
  • Helps refine the design language system and advocate for its application across different products and platforms.
  • Actively participates in design critiques and peer reviews.
  • Assists Creative Director in pitching new concepts to executive leadership and business owners.
  • Leads in fostering excellence, learning, and innovation in the team by sharing knowledge.
  • Cares deeply for people and seeks to enable, motivate, and advance the team and our customer.

Requirements

Portfolio

  • Must have a current online portfolio showcasing work, clearly demonstrating a full spectrum of digital design capabilities.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in design preferred or ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of design principles. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Skills and Experience

  • Five or more (5+) years of experience in Web Design (may have been titled: UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, or Product Design).
  • Advanced understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to understand the platform that’s being designed for and write clean markup to work with developers.
  • Advanced prototyping ability and acute attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of visual design patterns, fonts, design systems, color schemes, and mobile design trends.
  • Advanced knowledge of Sketch and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience with Invision and Figma a plus.
  • Understanding of how design impacts development, maintaining a good balance of custom UI and styling of standard elements.
  • Experience with animation concepts and interactive design (animations, motion, behaviors, and transitions).
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, responsive design, and user interface design.
  • Mastery of a motion graphics tool is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal storytelling ability.
  • Ability to use both subjective and data-driven methods to substantiate decisions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity at times, capable of independent decision-making and receptive to critique of work.
  • Prior experience collaborating with developers, designers, and project managers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple projects at once.

Bonus Experience

  • Functional understanding of Xcode, Interface Builder, Swift, and/or Objective-C.
  • Experience with Wordpress development.

Working Conditions

  • Extended working hours may be required as dictated by management and business needs.
  • Travel to multiple facilities may be required.
  • May be required to lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.
  • May be required to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • May require repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard.
