The Associate of Business Data Governance & Oversight is a critical role that supports the organization by implementing a Business Data Governance program, ensuring the organization’s structured electronic data is being properly retained and disposed once it has reached the end of its lifecycle. 

This role is critical to effectively managing and promoting a culture of compliance through an effective governance program, and provides support to several functional areas: Business Application Owners, Information Technology, Information Security, Records Management, and Information Risk Management.

The Associate, Business Data Governance & Oversight supports the operational and strategic objectives by monitoring data and databases to meet the company's current and projected future needs; reviews and ensures the quality, accuracy and security of data in accordance with established procedures and standards; monitors database activity and the relationships between the database users and applications to ensure appropriate data retention and resolve data conflicts; collaborates with business/technology/infrastructure staff to identify data relationships and functional requirements; and ensuring that data governance best practices are incorporated into each effort at every level.

The Associate supports a program that works to partner with key stakeholders (First, Second, and Third Line of Defense) to identify, assess, and action analytics needs of the organization.

The role will engage with the Director, Business Data Governance & Oversight, as well as other functional teams, to support the program development and Business-As-Usual activities. 

The successful candidate will present a strong data acumen, with experience in data management/decision science/information technology.  The Associate, Business Data Governance & Oversight role is critical in minimizing the company's exposure to risk – the incumbent will ensure data is sufficiently retained to support ongoing business activities, and to support legal and compliance inquiries. 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Support a program responsible for the execution, oversight, and enhancement for data retention and disposal. 
  • Collect and create consistent communication for Executive Leadership on the program status and actions. 
  • Support strategies to enhance data retention and disposal efforts.
  • Assist in development and implement a data retention and disposal schedule for applications at Santander Consumer USA.
  • Ensure that all aspects of data retention and disposal remain complaint with applicable regulations, in partnership with SC Legal and Compliance.
  • Partner with Control Peers and Business to identify opportunities to enhance overall program and ensure the program is aligned to support the Records Management program.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree with business related or similar focus is required, and any Graduate Studies would enhance consideration but not required. 
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in data management, analytics, or decision sciences required.
  • Experience in working with databases, data warehousing and/or data marts preferred.  
  • Excellent analytical, technical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Visual Basic). 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of data governance best practices, structures, and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Quality, and/or Master Data Management within Financial Services.
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex problems and driving multiple stakeholders towards implementable solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business environment.
  • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to leverage technology to improve and automate business tasks.

Working Conditions:

  • Extended working hours may be required as dictated by management and business needs.
  • Travel to multiple facilities may be required but at a low frequency.
  • May be required to lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.
  • May be required to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time
  • May require repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard
  • Preferred location Dallas, but Corporate / satellite office role a consideration.
