The Finance organization is responsible for leading and participating in a number of critical functions including: supporting executive management decisions making by analyzing results, assessing strategic alternatives and developing strategic plans; communicating financial results and forecasts with critical stakeholders, including executive management and Board of Directors, shareholders and regulators; managing the Company’s balance sheet, including interest rate and liquidity risks; establishes the Company’s capital policies and prioritizes investments; develops and implements controls to reduce operational risk; developing and maintaining financial data and systems. The Finance organization works across functions and Business lines in the Company, requiring a broad understanding of our business, risk and strategy.

Job Function: Controllership & Tax

The Controllership function is responsible for the operations and controls surrounding accounting, tax and financial reporting of the institution. This function’s responsibilities demonstrates expertise in processing transactions, recording accounting entries, managing the general ledger and reconciliations, and interpreting and complying with technical accounting matters and financial reporting disclosure requirements. Through the Controllership function, stakeholders receive relevant insight and commentary on transaction-level and financial results for analysis and decision making. The Tax function prepares income tax returns and indirect tax filings. Provides research and advice on tax-related matters.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The primary function of the Manager, Internal Controls is to lead the execution of the individual internal controls reviews and other activities included in the risk-based Internal Controls Plan, overseeing the work performed by the staff. The Manager must ensure activities are performed in a timely manner, ensuring quality standards are met, and courteous and professional behavior is observed in all situations.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops a broad and comprehensive understanding of the business or area.
  • Plans Internal Controls reviews and activities with the assistance, where applicable, of the Sr. Supervisor.
  • Reviews industry standards and regulatory rules and expectations to ensure they are incorporated into Internal Controls procedures and properly covered by the Internal Controls teams.
  • Oversees Internal Controls staff as part of Internal Controls reviews and activities. As such, reviews and challenges critical testing and key work papers (planning memo, risk control matrix, etc). prepared by Internal Controls staff.
  • Assigns staff to complete specific Internal Controls tests and procedures.
  • Reviews Internal Controls recommendations with the Director.
  • Presents, discusses and agrees Internal Controls results recommendations with business management.
  • Drafts the Internal Controls deficiency report document for the Director/Executive Director review.
  • Ensures assigned Internal Controls reviews and activites are completed within the budgeted timeframe. Staffing concerns or budget challenges are raised as identified.
  • Ensures high quality, risk focused Internal Controls reviews and activities, in accordance with Internal policies, methodologies and standards.
  • Assists the Director/Executive Director in the risk assessment activities.
  • Demonstrates experience in managing and developing talent within the teams. Provides team members with on the job training.
  • Participates in the completion of Internal Controls staff performance appraisals, promotion recommendations, terminations, and professional development.
  • Attends professional training provided by the company.
  • Provides consistent quality service to both internal and external stakeholders that meets the company's standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate managers and professional staff. Is responsible for the strategic guidance, development and evaluation of employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Santander’s policies and applicable laws.


  • Education -
    • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent field
  • Experience -
    • 5-9 years 7-9 years Public Accounting, Auditing, or Internal Controls experience. Additional relevant experience will be considered.
    • Experience in Financial Services, including trading/broker-dealer services preferred, but not required
  • Skills & Abilities -

    • Technology and computer skills, with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

    • CPA - Certified Public Accountant
    • CIA - Certified Internal Auditor
    • CFE - Certified Fraud Examiner

Working Conditions:

  • Frequently: Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Occasional moving and lifting of equipment and furniture is required to support onsite and offsite meeting setup and teardown.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to fifty pounds, able to bend, kneel, climb ladders.
