Job Summary

The Microbiology Technologist performs microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process and finished products and supports other areas of the laboratory performing analytical chemistry tests. The Microbiology Technologist collaborates on laboratory method development, validation and ongoing process improvements as needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process and final products.
  • Develop and validate microbiological testing methods for use on raw materials, in-process and final products.
  • Perform chemical testing of raw materials, in-process and final products, as needed.
  • Support other quality control functions such as sampling, data mining, physical inspection and specification generation.
  • Generate and review Raw Material Specifications (RMS), Certificates of Analysis (C of As) and Finished Product Specifications (FPS).
  • Perform Environmental Monitoring procedures related to testing and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory team to maintain and improve in-process-control and sampling programs.
  • Set up, maintain and operate lab equipment in the microbiological area.
  • Ensure optimization of all related procedures and policies.
  • Write, maintain and uphold lab methods, work instructions, reports and relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology or related scientific field.
  • 1 year of experience in an analytical laboratory.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English).
  • Proficiency with technical writing.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • CPG, GMP and/or nutraceutical/pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Experience in leadership/supervision/management.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

 

Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
