Senior Food Safety and Quality Supervisor

Job Summary

The Senior Food Safety and Quality Supervisor supports the Technical Quality team and management by providing direct oversight of the food safety, supplier qualification and customer complaint handling systems. This position effectively collaborates with members of Quality, Engineering and Maintenance, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain and Research & Development (R&D) to assure the food safety, supplier qualification and customer complaint handling systems are conducted in a compliant manner, with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and other applicable regulatory requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Supplier Qualification Program and staff, including supporting supplier quality audits.
  • Manage the Food Safety Program including the food safety plan, food defense, pest control; provide food safety training.
  • Supervise the Customer Complaint team and oversee the Complaint/Adverse Event programs.
  • Ensure timely resolution of complaints and adverse events including oversight of field alerts; ensure proper communication to the quality management team.
  • Oversee staffing, training, performance management and professional development of direct reports.
  • Lead and identify continuous improvement initiatives to meet company objectives.
  • Provide backup support to quality management, as needed.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related field.
  • 3 years of relevant experience within the dietary supplement, food or pharmaceuticals fields.
  • 2 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification.
  • FSMA and FSVP compliance knowledge.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety or a related function.
  • Thorough knowledge of cGMP documentation requirements and quality systems.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and support multiple projects simultaneously and adjust personal style to adapt to increased business pressures and work well under pressure while performing all tasks accurately, completely and in an appropriate manner.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting quality audits of dietary supplement, food or pharmaceutical manufacturers.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.


Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
