Description

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and managing quality control (QC) systems designed to ensure the continuous production of high-quality products that are consistent with established standards, customer specifications and production goals. Supervises and leads a team of QC Leads and Technicians responsible for the inspection of incoming raw materials through finished goods release.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively manage and train QC employees including Technicians and Leads. Hire, train, schedule, coach, support and develop direct reports.
  • Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high standards of quality and high technical integrity.
  • Oversee and ensure consistent QC documentation, testing and reporting in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Lead internal continuous improvement teams to stabilize and improve quality processes using techniques such as statistical process control (SPC).
  • Collaborate with Quality team and management to reduce quality deviations, conversion loss and customer complaints.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Regulatory and other interdepartmental teams, as needed.
  • Provide technical and statistical expertise to teams as needed.
  • Maintain and update the Quality Manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and Quality Control Work Instructions.
  • Interpret and spread the quality control philosophy to key company personnel.
  • Design, develop and implement quality control training programs.
  • Support customer, government and institution audits.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or related field.
  • 8 years’ experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control in the food or dietary supplement industry.
  • 5 years’ management/supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency with quality systems and techniques such as statistical process control (SPC), process validation, Design of Experiments (DOE), Corrective and Corrective Actions (CAPAs).
  • Strong communication, leadership, process development, training, organization and prioritization skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in a regulated FDA environment.
  • HACCP/HARPC-PCQI Certification.
  • Knowledge of GFSI standards.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
