 Controls Design Engineer

Shift: ADM- Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

Summary: Primary function will be related to design and specify electrical and pneumatic controls for automated machines globally, providing a competitive TTM (time to market) of Samtec products. Support and manage controls related tasks such as panel building, issues, upgrades, and improvements for global operations will also be part of the scope.                  

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Design electrical wire schematics for custom automated equipment.
2. Design electrical panel layouts for custom automated equipment.
3. Keep Electrical and pneumatic design up to date.
4. Draw electrical schematics using Eplan. Maintain Eplan electrical parts database up to date.
5. Specify, test, and integrate purchased components into electrical design.
6. 
Specify part numbers for purchased components. Generate bill of materials and Purchase Orders.
7. Verify size of motor needed for application.
8. Perform upgrades to retrofit obsoleted machine controls.

9. Provide support to Global operations to troubleshoot and solve controls related issues.

10.Collaborate and manage automation building projects.

11. To be involved with new teammates onboarding.

Required experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in similar positions or 2 years at Samtec.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advanced English level.

Preferred education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electromechanical, mechatronic engineering, or related field.
  2. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  3. Operational knowledge of control relays, pneumatic solenoids, PLC’s, servomotors, motion controllers, operator interfaces, etc.
  4. Operational knowledge on CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  5. Eplan Electric P8 knowledge is desirable.
