Signal Integrity (SI) Engineer

Engineering Gyeonggi-Do, South Korea

Description

Position at Samtec, Inc

The SI Design Engineer simulates & optimizes electrical models of connectors & cable assemblies, working closely with the mechanical design team to navigate trade-offs and arrive together at the optimal balance of mechanical and electrical performance.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities
  1. Use novel techniques in modeling & simulation to design new connectors, cable assemblies, and connector evaluation PCBs with a focus on developing world-class solutions on tight timelines, achieving excellent correlation between measurement and simulation.
  2. Perform high-speed empirical and analytical signal integrity evaluations of interconnects. Work with lab team remotely to validate design and correlate measurement with simulations using VNA, TDR, and Oscilloscope.  Previous experience using high-speed measurement equipment is beneficial but not required.
  3. Provide electrical design guidance to mechanical design teams and create electrical product models and associated supporting documentation for major design and development milestones.
  4. Analyze variation of electrical performance to determine 1st & 2nd order dependencies to drive parametric optimization of models.  Familiarity with statistical methods to inform best design practices such as DOE, Bayesian methods, etc. would be most helpful.
“The responsibilities as defined are intended to serve as a general guideline for this position. Associates may be asked to perform additional tasks depending on strengths and capabilities”
Required Experience
  1. 1-5+ years’ experience designing and developing high-speed digital, RF, or microwave connectors
  2. Experience using commercial 3D field solvers, with a strong preference for Ansys HFSS, to study electromagnetic effects.
  3. Familiarity with high volume connector manufacturing methods & processes is required.
  4. Must have a proven track record of successful design capabilities.
  5. Communication skills are a must as this person will interact with engineers in different disciplines as well as with members of management.  Fluency in Korean and proficiency in English are required with a strong preference for a TOEFL score of 90+ on iBT or 576+ on PBT scales for the latter.
