Job Summary
The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer (sSQE) investigates component quality problems caused by
external suppliers. This role includes testing, process verification, and engineering reviews, and works
cross functionally with Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Quality and Sourcing teams to resolve
quality issues internally and externally. The sSQE will also lead peers in problem solving and participate
in new supplier evaluation and onboarding.
Core Responsibilities
Supplier Quality Support & Issue Management
• Act as the voice of Samtec to the supplier regarding change management, defective material, and
product qualifications
• Verifying the validity of defects reported through the Quality Problem (QP) system.
• Verify reported out of spec features
• Contain all suspect material
• Determine the accountable party for defects
• Disposition suspect material
• Lead peers in Quality Problem Resolution
Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions
• Use quality and engineering tools to properly identify root causes of defects
• Engage cross functional teams to determine solutions to Quality Problems
• Implement solutions to Quality Problems
• Verify implementation of short- and long-term corrective, preventive, and crossing actions by the
accountable party
• Engage suppliers to generate detailed 8D reports including root cause analysis and corrective
and preventive actions
Quality Systems & Compliance
• Ensure site compliance with the Samtec Quality Management System (QMS) to maintain ISO
9001 and other certifications
• Support audits for compliance to procedures and work instructions per the internal audit schedule
• Audit suppliers to ISO standards
Supplier & Process Development
• Work with Engineering, Sourcing, and Quality to evaluate new suppliers
• Study and recommend techniques to improve product and process control methods with suppliers
Project & Objective Ownership
• Own quality assurance objectives established by upper management
• Manage assigned projects and ensure timely completion
Recommended Experience
Manufacturing & Technical Experience
• Experience in manufacturing processes employed by Samtec or Samtec suppliers, including:
o Fiber Optics
o Cable Extrusion
o High Data Rate Cable Assemblies
o Precision RF
o Injection Molding, Progressive Stamping, Plating, insert molding a plus
Quality & Engineering Skills
• Experience in engineering or quality role with knowledge of:
o Automotive quality
o Quality tools (8D, Fishbone/Ishikawa, 5 Why, Is/Is Not)
o Statistical Process Control (SPC)
o FMEA, GR&R, Lean, DOE
o Root cause analysis
o Tolerance analysis
o Engineering design
o Data analysis
o Negotiation and leadership
o Customer service

• Willingness to travel to suppliers and other Samtec locations

Education
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Materials Science,
or equivalent).
Training
• On the job training as appropriate.
