Samtec is seeking a Director of Optoelectronics Manufacturing for the Colorado Springs, CO location. The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $260,000 per year inclusive of applicable bonus and commensurate with experience. Summary/Objective:  This position will be responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing process, ensuring the efficient and high-quality production of microelectronics and optoelectronics assemblies.  At the core of the optoelectronics assemblies are “optical engines,” consisting of optics, electronics, and optoelectronic devices. 
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities: 
  1. Production Oversight:
    • Lead and supervise the manufacturing team to ensure seamless production operations.
    • Manage a local staff of functional managers which report to you and other managers which report solid line to functional heads in other locations and dotted line to you.  These dotted line responsibilities could include test development, quality, HR, and other functions.
    • Implement and optimize manufacturing processes with a focus on efficiency and quality.
  2. Site Oversight:
    • Drive site leadership team to excel in all site functions; some with solid line relations and others with dotted, as noted above.
  3. Microelectronics Packaging Expertise:
    • Leverage in-depth knowledge or microelectronics, including flip chip, wire bonding, die attach, and thermal bonding of wafers.
    • Oversee and guide the team in the execution of complex microelectronics processes.
  4. Semiconductor Operations Management:
    • Utilize semiconductor processing experience to streamline operations and enhance production capabilities.
    • Act as a key contributor to strategic planning for semiconductor-related projects.
  5. Quality Control:
    • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures to ensure the delivery of high-quality products.
    • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to address and resolve any production issues promptly.
  6. Optical Engine Integration: (Preferred)
    • Leverage optical engine background to contribute to projects involving optical technologies.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate optical components seamlessly into microelectronics products.

Required/Preferred Experience:  
  1. 15+ years in Microelectronics or Semiconductor manufacturing with 7+ years in Operations or Plant management.
  2. Extensive & Proven experience in microelectronics packaging, optoelectronics, flip chip, wire bonding, die attach, thermal bonding of wafers, and semiconductor processing of both logic IC’s and optoelectronic IC’s such as lasers, detectors, and physical layer ASIC’s.
  3. Background in semiconductor operations management and knowledge of optical engine technology will be considered a significant advantage.
  4. Prior experience in semiconductor processing and semiconductor operations management.
  5. Familiarity with optical engine technology is a plus.
  6. Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams.
  7. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  8. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.  An advanced degree is preferred.
