Summary/Objective: The Optimization Engineer evaluates existing processes and configures manufacturing systems to improve scalability and throughput, while reducing costs related to inefficiency and waste. The Optimization Engineer also develops and supports implementation of best practices throughout the organization. This position is required to be on-site at Samtec's Wilsonville Oregon cable plant.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Operations, Quality and Engineering to develop and implement solutions to process-related problems.
- Lead proactive discovery efforts focused on identifying hidden inefficiencies or wastes.
- Lead or support cross-functional teams that are hyper-focused on solving a critical problem, identifying short-term and long-term corrective actions.
- Analyze production capacity and scalability through Value Stream Mapping and other modeling techniques.
- Review process control procedures and Key Performance Indicators to drive improvements upstream and reduce waste and inefficiency.
- Utilize data to identify top issues/obstacles and be able to calculate Impact and Effort of a proposed solution or analytical comparison of multiple solutions.
- Provide expertise in engineering tools to evaluate capability of existing processes and investigate recurring issues (Six Sigma, DMAIC, DOE, Root Cause Analysis, Gage R&R, etc.).
- Collect and analyze data to ensure processes function at optimum cost, quality, and capacity.
- Drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing systems that optimize all phases of the production process.
- Manage and execute projects; must be able to plan and lead projects, develop timelines, communicate status to stakeholders and follow through on commitments.

Required Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a Process Engineer, or other related role in a manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years of experience using data to identify issues.
- Experience working with or leading cross-functional teams on projects.
- Experience finding creative solutions to complex problems.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent related is required.
- Six Sigma certification or training.
- Project Management certification or training.
