Founded in 1976, Samtec is a privately held, $950 million global manufacturer of a broad line of electronic interconnect solutions, including High-Speed Board-to-Board, High-Speed Cables, Mid-Board and Panel Optics, Precision RF, Flexible Stacking, and Micro/Rugged components and cables. Samtec Technology Centers are dedicated to developing and advancing technologies, strategies and products to optimize both the performance and cost of a system from the bare die to an interface 100 meters away, and all interconnect points in between. With 40+ international locations and products sold in more than 125 different countries, Samtec’s global presence enables its unmatched customer service.

Summary/Objective:  As a Samtec Hardware Engineer, you will create preliminary concepts and independently design and document electrical systems centered on high‑speed SerDes and interconnect technologies. You will develop modules and boards by generating schematics, BOMs, constraints, bring‑up plans, and test reports, perform DOE‑style sensitivity analyses to refine guard bands and acceptance criteria, and support DFM/DFX reviews and ECO activity through release.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  1. Create and maintain schematics, BOM, reports and other technical documentation; apply naming/labeling conventions and version control in appropriate/approved systems (name PTS only for release)
  2. Lead PCB development by defining stackup, routing, and constraints while collaborating with layout and SI engineers
  3. Coordinate fabrication, assembly, and bring up; author bring‑up plans, execute or assist with validation utilizing clear pass/fail rationale
  4. Correlate simulation and measurement; record assumptions and acceptance criteria
  5. Conduct DV/DFM reviews and raise ECOs as needed;
  6. Work closely with software engineers to plan and execute firmware and hardware bring‑up (e.g., bootloaders, power sequencing, interface bring‑up for I2C/SPI/UART/SerDes
  7. Design power delivery network (PDN); Perform PI/EMC pre‑checks (decoupling strategy, Z‑target/DC drop sanity, layout choke points) and document mitigations
*The responsibilities as defined are intended to serve as a general guideline for this position. Associates may be asked to perform additional tasks depending on strengths and capabilities.

Preferred experience:
  1. Minimum 5 years of relevant hardware engineering experience
  2. Working knowledge EDA/CAD tools (Cadence Capture and Allegro)
  3. Working knowledge of electrical lab test equipment (oscilloscope, VNA, TDR…)
  4. Working knowledge of SPICE and measurement correlation (VNA/TDR/oscilloscope)
  5. Working knowledge of DV/DFM reviews, test plans/reports, and ECO processes
  6. Working knowledge of DOE‑style sensitivity studies and guardband development
  7. Experience with EMC/regulatory expectations (e.g., UL/CE/IEC)
  8. Strong interpersonal, technical, verbal and written communication skills are a must
  9. Self-motivated, proactive individual who enjoys solving problems
  10. Work well in a global, multifunctional team

Education:

  1. BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related (required)/ Masters preferred
