Samtec in Wilsonville, Oregon is seeking a Sustaining Product Engineer (Cable Products) to be the go-to person between New Product Introduction and Operations for all released products and any quality issues related needing product engineering support during the product life cycle. This role owns improvements to processing instructions, manufacturing documentation and manufacturing drawing optimizations under ECN and PSDB revision controls. Supports product scale ups, capacity improvements, raw material optimizations, and process optimizations enabling improved quality, throughput and HVM capabilities.  Works directly with QA group for QP’s, root cause analysis, corrective actions and improving manufacturing and supporting documentation with other engineering groups. Identifies opportunities for optimizations, performing impact vs. effort justification, Leads 2nd sourcing efforts and qualification of raw materials. Supports duplicate equipment implementation “product qualifications”, and transfers to other Samtec sites. 
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
  1. Support multiple business groups, acting as liaison between production floor, product development, machine development, process, QA, and operational groups.
    • Production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, documentation, etc.
  2. Identify value and reduce waste using Lean tools & methodology.
    • Value identification, value stream mapping, standard work, etc.
  3. Maintain existing improvements via process monitoring, control plans, statistical process control.
  4. Identify and support product OEE improvement projects through evaluation of existing performance data using DMAIC/Six Sigma tools & methodology.
    • Capability indices, MSA, C&E, process mapping, FMEA, etc.
  5. Manage multiple projects simultaneously with cross-functional teams via project charters, work breakdown structure, stakeholder reviews, to meet business goals on target timelines.
  6. Enable continuous improvement through hands-on troubleshooting, Gemba walks, and ongoing collaboration with subject matter experts.
  7. Developing inputs for technical manufacturing documentation.
  8. Collecting & analyzing data and reporting results from investigations.
  9. Looking over Root cause analysis and provide inputs for short/long term corrective actions.
  10. Create/execute engineering trial plans for product/process development activities.
  11. Effective use of Office365 including Outlook, Excel, PPT, SharePoint, etc.
  12. Work effectively with different levels and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  13. Must be able to do Hands-on project activities.
  14. Independent worker and team player.
  15. Identify and lead product yield improvement projects through evaluation of existing performance.
  16. Any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the manager.
Required Experience
  1. 2+ years of experience with continuous manufacturing processes.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  3. Document process capabilities meeting requirements.
  4. Sustaining product or process optimizations.
  5. Process monitoring and capability reporting.
Preferred Experience
  1. Statistical analysis (Minitab or similar).
  2. Lean Six Sigma experience  (Green Belt or similar )
  3. Developing and implementing Lean Systems and Standard Work practices.
Education:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent education and experience.
