Summary/Objective: The Advanced Controls Engineer will develop and implement control systems solutions for advanced manufacturing equipment for continuous cable manufacturing processes. Advanced Controls projects include development of new systems and update or optimization of existing.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Develop reliable and robust Supervisory Control System designs and platforms for advanced process control functions.
- Work with Manufacturing and Process Engineering to develop system functional requirements.
- Advanced Control Systems software design and development to include:
- HMI/SCADAs (Ignition® Platform) and Operator/Engineering interfaces.
- Startup, debug controls, conditioning, and qualification of newly built or upgraded SCADA systems and accompanying Engineering tools.
- Project management for new equipment development and upgrades to existing systems.
- Troubleshooting of SCADA System in context of control of the automated machinery.
- Tuning Advanced Control systems algorithms.
- Work with IT Functions that support the infrastructure and function of the Control Systems platform including Cloud Services for data management and storage.
- Develop strategies and plans to standardize common controls system functions, architecture, and components across a wide variety of production machinery.
- Develop strategies for Supervisory Control System software standardization.

Required Experience:
- 5+ years of direct experience as an Advanced Controls Engineer working on automated processes, equipment and system integration in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with continuous processing control systems preferred.
- Experience with the Inductive Automation® Ignition® Industrial Automation Platform preferred.
- Understanding of Principles of Industry 4.0 and IIoT Concepts.
- Knowledge of Machine Control concepts.
- Ability to read and write Python and various industrial scripting languages.
- Ability to read and understand IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming.
- Experience in creating and designing Advanced Automation Controls Systems (SCADA).
- Experience with communications protocols including MQTT, Sparkplug B, OPC UA, Ethernet, EtherCAT and MODBUS.
- Understanding of High-Performance HMI/SCADA standards including ANSI/ISA-101-2015 Human Machine Interfaces for Process Automation Systems, ANSI/ISA-TR101.01 HMI Philosophy and ANSI/ISA-TR101.02-2019 HMI Usability and Performance.
- Understanding of ANSI/ISA-95 (IEC 62264) and its constituent parts.
- Understanding of engineering documentation such as setup and adjustment procedures, software documentation and operating instructions.
- Understanding of infrastructure systems such as network and Cloud Services for data management and storage.
- Proficient with written and verbal technical communication including generating reports and conducting group presentations.
- Resource management for project execution.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineer, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
