JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:  MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP / STUDENT

Code: xx-xx-00-100-xxx

Summary/Objective:  The co-op will work with various managers and areas within our engineering department in order to gain exposure to the different aspects of engineering. The position will be responsible for completing assigned projects, building trust within team members, maintaining customer focus, as well as initiating and following up on actions taken. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work with and take direction from senior engineers, be creative, passionate, and resourceful while taking initiative to explore new solutions to the issues they are presented with.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

The student will be exposed to and expected to learn the basics in the many different technologies used at Samtec.  These may include but are not limited to the following:

  1. 3D / Parametric part and tooling design
  2. Dimensional, electrical, and force analysis equipment
  3. Automated and hand assembly equipment and processes including those employing vision technology
  4. Using CAD software (Solidworks), Design all mechanical elements of either manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic tooling and equipment used in volume production in Samtec’s assembly processes.
  5. Support Production in troubleshooting issues regarding Safety; Quality; Tooling,…
  6. Data analysis for improvement project, apply Pareto chart, Root cause analysis,…,IE form Communicate in a collaborative environment to provide mechanical design support for the design needs of internal customers.
  7. Validate that Product Quality and Process Reliability are designed into all projects through project qualifications.
  8. Understand the purposes and review of project costing and margin requirements with applications engineering.
  9. Ensures the project delivered is compliant with all relevant OSHA, ANSI and local standards in respect to the design and engineering work practices.
  10. Conduct regular project meetings with the project team throughout the project on:

-Machine/Equipment/Tooling design and status.

-Controls/Systems design and status.

Required Experience:

  1. Excellent Written and Verbal Communication skills (English)
  2. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team and proactive attitude
  3. Strong analytical skill; problem solving mindset and willing to work on shopfloor
  4. Ability to use SolidWorks and MS Office Suite, and general computer literacy.
  5. Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  6. Eager to gain new expertise and quick to pick up required skills
  7. Demonstration of flexibility, innovation, customer service, and ability to create win/win solutions
  8. Must be able to sit/stand for at least 90 consecutive minutes.

 

Education:

  1. 4th year Student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/ Mechatronics / Electrical Engineering or related field

Training Required:

  1. On the job training as appropriate.
